I think the G35 gets pretty good mileage. I also have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 Inline six and if I'm lucky gets 18mpg. I'm always happy to get into the g for the power and decent mileage. I wouldnt complain about it. For the engine size its not bad.

Yeah I'd say its right on par for the size/output. My Accord has a 3.0L and is rated at 240hp (probably 210ish to the wheels). I'll average 25mpg if i keep my foot out of it. I've seen as good as 28 on mixed driving, but as bad as 22.

Thats pretty crazy. Is that what the nav is saying or did you actually do the math w/ fuel use?

i calculate when its time to fill up. no navi.

when i drove from Los Angeles to Las Vegas driving at speeds from 75-120mph i avg 28 mpg.

Once i got to vegas didnt drive my car at all, filed tank back before leaving Vegas. Calculated my mpg that way.

overall driving for me including street driving i avg from 17-21 mpg depending on how heavy or light migh foot is on certain days.

haha...I bought my Titan after I was done paying off the G35. The truck gets an average of 17-18 MPG; the G35 averaged about 23-25 after tuning from UpRev. Had to iron out the mods to get the most effecient tune. UpRev has since made a tuner and I'll be doing the same for the Titan to accomodate the mods I will be doing to the truck. I appreciate the G35 for the MPG but I have way more fun in the Titan.

Overall, the most effective way of getting the most MPG out of my vehicles was planning my routes, especially on the work week and knowing the traffic on the weekends. As well as keeping up with my vehicles maintenance schedules. Saving at the pump by means of Costco helps a lot too.

I think I just left a 1/3 of a tank of gas and half of my rear tires in the parking lot of my work just screwing around on my way home... Gas milage I think I just acheived 2MPG with the way I was driving. So sell that G and get a GE Oh....

Bump up the pressure in your tires, don't buy anything with ethanol, keep it under 70, don't go routes with lots of traffic and always take the highway over roads with lights.

Or better yet just don't drive. That's what I've been doing a lot of. I tend to not worry too much about the mileage when I'm driving (might as well have fun in a sporty car), and just not drive when I don't have to (ride with others, make fewer trips, walk, et cetera). The "mpg" doesn't improve, but the overall gas savings is huge.

And for all those saying "sell the G35 and buy another car, blah blah blah" well you're going to kill yourself in the cost of the transaction #1, and then you're likely taking a hit on the depreciation of the G35, and with the market for little cars you're paying a premium for an econobox. By selling the G35 and buying something else, you're taking a few thousand dollar hit that could go a long ways toward buying a lot of gas.

It's the same reason it makes no sense to buy a prius. The five or so grand you'd save by opting for a corolla or civic (which is arguably a nicer car) over the battery powered prius completely negates the gas savings of the prius.

Can you go over the skipping gears a little bit more?
