Are the shifter gates too close in the G?
Hi everyone:
i was just thinking about something that happened to me recently while driving the Z...since the Z and the G share the same tranny. i thought i'd ask for info here..
I was driving on the Freeway and i was downshifting from 5th gear to what i presumed was Fourth, and i happened to go into 2nd gear instead, just briefly, but not before i caught myself with the clutch as i saw the RPMs shoot up.. and the car lurch a little... its happened a few times before, but i never really thought about it seriously until the most recent time....
has this happened to anyone else recently? i've driven stick shifts before on an S2000 and other high performance cars, but never have i really 'missed the gate' this bad, or this often..
anyone else have this common problem, of the gates being so close?
thanks!
Cheston

Re: Are the shifter gates too close in the G?
Honestly, if anything, I think they are too far apart. I am using the short throw shift from Rogue and it is still too far in my view. Better, but too long a throw and too far apart. We all make mistakes in shifting, but it is usually just getting a bit too casual and not paying close enough attention to what we are doing or being distracted. When you are focused, there is a ton of play and slop in there, and it could stand being tighter. But for street driving and talking on the phone and messing with your stereo and chatting....and shifting in the middle of all that, the wider play makes sense for safety and ease, so it is about right for what the car is supposed to be.
