Broken studs...

I just bought my 03 g35 couple 6spd from a dealership about 6 months ago and I just had a flat tire 2 nights ago. When I went to grab the spare in the trunk, I saw a lugnut with part of the stud stuck in it, as if they knew that it was broken and they just threw it in the back hoping I would never notice (the wheels that came with my car have center pieces that cover the lugnuts). I guess I was driving around with 4 lug nuts the whole time, and I guess the lugnuts that came with my wheels were pretty crappy because we ended up breaking 2 more off when we were trying to unscrew them. Now my car is sitting on a spare and is only held on by 2 lugnuts..

I called the dealership and they told me they couldn't cover it, not sure what to do, should I take legal action? They had to have known that there was a broken stud because they replaced all the tires before they sold me the car. If I can't take this route, how much should I be looking to spend to get the studs fixed/replaced?

Thx in advanced.

Studs are very inexpensive (~$3-5 each) but its the labour that will cost you a bit more. I had to get a few studs replaced on both my rear wheels and my mechanic charged me for 1 hour total (probably the minimum charge). I'd say you're looking at a couple hundred bucks all in all.

When you buy a car, you have to sign an agreement that you are buying the car AS-IS. It is your responsibility to inspect the vehicle. Its rediculous to say that the car is a lemon because the wheel stud was broken. There are cars that dont come with spare tires AT ALL! My corvette is one of those vehicles.

Hadouken- just replace the broken studs, and replace the lug nuts with good quality ones. Id say what happened is the previous owner had aftermarket wheels, and got a few of the lug nuts cross threaded. its an easy process. In fact, ive got one that has been broken off ever since i had my car that i will probably replace soon. Its not dangerous to have 1 broken off, but really needs some attention at some point.

^^You don't need any special tools to do it. It will be a lot easier with a stud puller, which is like $20 - but I don't know what it looks like or where to buy it. Only seen it once. You can also make your own, but again I don't know how. Its fairly easy, my friend put in my longer studs just by wrenching on it again and again until it pulls it through. It's hard, but not impossible.

Impact Gun results....!

This is a perfect example why you NEVER let anyone install your wheels
without using a torq wrench, f^cking monkeys go nuts using those impact
guns. Impact guns not only damage your studs they also warp your disc's!
Most tire shops with replace your studs for a nominal fee, just always request
they use a TORQ WRENCH to install!

that same problem happened to me. i only had 2 studs left and i had the vehicle towed back to the dealership because i thought it would be covered under warranty. they told me that they believe someone tried to steal my rims and broke 1 and from there it was a chain reaction. i believe that when i bring my car to have service where they have to take the rims off, instead of torquing down the lug nuts with a torque wrench, they just impact them back on. therefore causing the studs to more premature wear stretching the studs. in the end, the stealership, charged me $170.30.. $157.50 of it was for labor!!

you can pull studs through with just a stack of washers and an old lug nut
