Now I know this question has been asked about storage but usually its only been for winter just a couple months. Ive got orders to Japan and Ill be overseas for 3 years and dont plan on coming back to the states during those 3 years. Now my question is anyone have any helpful tips for extreme long term storage? This was what I was planning to do

-Fresh oil & filter w/stabil added to full fuel tank
-Car washed, wax, with cover on
-All windows clean & clear with interior clean
-All wheels removed and clean throughly of brake dust
-Intake & exhaust covered
-Tire pressure set at 42psi (plan on getting new tires when I get back)
-Windows left at door open position so it doesnt push against the seal
-Battery removed and discarded (plan on getting a new battery)
-A/C ran before leaving to remove moisture
-Electrical contact cleaner to clean all harness connectors

Thats about all I can think of right now.

You could put it on jack stands so the tires do not touch the ground

If the car is 4 years old, I would be tempted to change every single fluid in the car before you head out. Also, you could use Engine fogger to keep the cylinder walls lubed so they don't rust or get any moisture in them.

I wouldn't put the car on jackstands however. I don't think you want to keep the suspension unloaded for that long, you will also be putting a lot of weight jack point for an extended period of time, not sure if they were designed for that. I would just over inflate your tires and be prepared to get new ones if they have flat spots when you get home.

Also, get some steel wool and plug it in your exhaust pipes and leave some dryer sheets around the engine to keep the mice out, alos put a big box of baking soda or those moisture absorbing gel packs inside the car to absorb moisture.

(I store my car for 5 months in the winter and this is what I do. haven't had a problem yet)

Why don't you just sell it? Buy a new one when you get back and profit.

I'd just sell it and buy another when you return. Put the $$ into some agressive mutual funds while the stocks are at a low point and make some money instead of swallowing the depreciation.

3 years? sell it and put the money in the bank! Buy a G39 when you come back!

Remove windshield wiper blades, put a cloth between the arm and windshield.

why not get a friend to start it and drive it 20 miles once a month?

Sell it. It'll be difficult to find anyone willing to buy it knowing it had 0 miles for 3+ years. Sell it before you leave.

It'll probably depreciate another 30%+ in three years (probably more).

I would definitely sell the car.

But if you don't... and do decide to store it, add these to your list of things to do:

-Lube all hinges... particularly your hood hinges.
-Change coolant
-Change brake fluid and bleed system
-Change clutch fluid
-Make sure you park the car with the E-brake off

Okay, rather than making a new one, I figured I'd res this thread.
I'm leaving for a minimum of a year and a half. I will store my car, and my main concern is my engine seizing up. Is there any cause for concern? Is there some additive I should put in before storing it to lubricate the cylinder walls?
