I have all the tools minus an oil filter wrench and ramps. What size ramps should I get? I want to get some that will let me get under the car a good amount and have some room to move, but I'm worried about not being able to get the car up on the ramps because of scraping the bumper. Anybody have any suggestions? Also, what kind of precautions should be taken when putting the car up on ramps if you're by yourself? Can you use the ramps to raise the rear end too, like backing up onto the ramps? (I have horror images of driving off the end of the ramps ) Or would jack and stands be better for both cases? Sorry, bunch of newbie questions.

I had also got tired of doing them myself. I did them myself when the cost mattered. But saving $5-10 3 times a year is hardly worth the time for me.

I have always changed my oil myself when I had my Grand Prix GTP and my Z28, but I just don't really feel like doing it anymore. I only pay $35 at the Nissan dealer for synth blend. Its worth it for avoiding the hassle.

Just keep the records yourself. My wife's 06 comes with a little service interval book to log the dates and mileage for services. A manufacturer CAN NOT deny a warranty claim because you did your own oil changes. I've NEVER had any dealership deny any type of warranty (engine fully replaced on an Altima once) because I didn't take my car to the stealership for an oil change. If you did something stupid like over fill/under fill or strip the drain bolt and try to claim that then you are SOL. That's crap that quick lube places tend to do.

Rhino Ramps are fine. That's what I use. No scraping if your car is stock suspension. If lowered, just drive over a couple pieces of 2x4. Race Ramps are even better. Only precaution I take is make sure the car is in gear, parking brake is up, and chock the wheels that are still on the ground.

Yes, you can use them to raise the back. You won't drive over them because there is a stop lip on the ramps. Once you hit the resistance, you stop. If you drive over them, then you are an idiot and shouldn't be driving at all.

Yes, jackstands are better but not as convenient sometimes.

To me, it's more about knowing that I've done it right as opposed to saving a couple of bucks. It's such a simple thing that most techs zone out over and that can lead to screw ups.

that price is a steal.... i went to westcovina nissan because their price is usually around there and for some reason it was about 70 bux....even after the "forums" member pricing.....i needed the oil bad so i paid it but i definitely have to buy tools now
