Here in California (and I know a number of other states have this law as well) front plates are mandatory...some officers choose to enforce it, and some don't care. Anywho...my story is that I got a "fix-it" ticket for not having a front plate and in order to get the ticket written off without actually having it installed (holes drilled in the front bumper)...I simply fastened the license plate to the frame that Infiniti made for the car using two shorter nuts and bolts that the ones provided. Then remove the little square plate that is in the bumper. Then used double sided adhesive tape to tape it to the bumper flush. Looked perfect...held up for inspection...and now everything is back to normal and I have no holes drilled in my front bumper. Just wanted to pass this along for those who have or will run into the same situationl, as "fix-it" tickets don't go on your record and are cleared as soon as they're written off by an officer.

 

did you also know that in CA the 2nd offense for not having a license plate is a big fine?

hahaha I dont have front plates, i left the dealer sticker on th windshield. I dont park my car on the steet much usually in parking lots. and on the freeway since Im running back and forth from Castro Valley to San Francisco, on 580 Im always ok. I think its just the city problem.

Exactly, keep that in mind. Same goes for front tints, I think the fine is $250 on front tints for a 2nd offense.

 

i don't have a front plate.. i just put the plate on my front dash.. most cops here will accept that..

How do they know if it is a second offense when it gets cleared off your record in as soon as you get it inspected and send the paper in?

They can't give you another ticket while the first is still pending because you have to have time to clear it - and if you go to court on the second one it will be tossed out.

Just asking since I've had 4 NFP tickets in 4 years - and no special fine or anything. Just simple fix it tickets. I put the plate on, get it cleared, it comes off my record, and the plate goes off again.

 

That's the impression that I was under...although this is my first fix-it ticket...but my friend has had three for his tint and he hasn't gotten any fines.

 

I think it depends on what city/county you are in. I got a ticket in LA (from a parking meter maid) for no license plate. It was a $25 fine (not a fix-it ticket).

 

I also once got a $50 ticket in Washington DC for no front plates.


It takes 15 years of hard work to be an overnight success. Enjoy while it lasts.

 

what if you get a fix-it ticket again? don't the police then know you didn't really fix it last time since they have it on record

I live in ca. and have gotten no plate tickets on my 300ZX and when I got the G35C I didn't want a repeat because I drive in S.F. alot and because of the red light cameras they are all over no plate cars. I didn't want to defile the front of my car so I made a holder that attaches to the underside of the bumper to existing bolts made from 1/16" aluminum plate the width of the plate and about twice as tall and then bent at about 15deg. This can be easily removed without leaving any holes.
