this is a tough one, I need help guys!

Hey everyone!

I've been a big fan of the g35 for awhile now, I am finally ready to buy a car, and I am deciding between g35 coupe ( white) 05-07 models or a bmw e46 m3, 03-05. I am going to be buying the car at the auction. ( friend got a dealer license) My range is 17 grand and under, i know that i can get a g35 coupe anywhere between 12-15grand at teh auction, thats with low miles etc. bmw 15-18 grand. What do you think is teh best value for the buck? I like the m3 in terms of SMG transmission, fast when its stock, classy.. def going to be a good car for me for the next 4 to 5 years. The G i like because of the looks, and a bit of performance. If i get the G i will def mod it as far as headers and exhaust goes, rims etc. I know the opinions would be biased since we are on a g35 forum, but i just wanted to see what everyone would say..any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks guys.

If I had the opportunity I would have gone with an m3 instead of my G. But then again Ive been an m3 fan for a long time now. It was just out of my price range. Maybe it will be my next car lol.

M3 if you can get your hands on and only if it still in good shape.

if that is your budget, get the G35. The maintenance on the m3 will be significantly higher, and it sounds like you don't have a lot of money to be throwing around

The price range you're listing for both cars sounds fairly cheap, which is great but you have to be careful with what you're getting. Mileage, warranty and condition is what should determine what you get. All depends what you're looking for in a car too.

Im a big fan of the m3 as well, it was slightly out of range for me. But as stated above warranty is your friend and it will cost more to maintain and mod.

everyone has very good points. And i know that if m3 has a problem it costs hella $$ to fix. If i find one in good condition and which looks good to my dad, which is a mechanic.. then perhaps we will go with it, I want to be happy with my car till i finish college and can finally afford a 40thousand dollar vehicle. I think teh g35 would be a lot of fun, but at the same time id rather move up to an m3 if i could. Driving an m3 at age 20 would be a good thing= pull up to clubs and smoke all my friends 540's and etc. at the same time, I am worried about the repair costs for bmw, some people say bmw's dont break, some say they do.. i guess it just depends on the luck

A BMW out of warranty is expensive to own. Never had one of my own, but have a couple friends who do, and they were both quick to turn theirs in when the warranty was up....Good luck whatever you decide.

If your buying a G stick your finger in the tail pipes and give em a swirl, if its oily and black you have an OC or oil burner and look at another one.

You probably won't find a decent M3 in the price range that you listed.... but if you do and it's in good shape... definitely get it instead of a G35.

^ +1. Am considering M3 as next car, but I know that maintenance is a B*tch, and without deep pockets modding is a B*tch and a half (helped my friend modd out his 330I) Cost him twice as much to do all the things I do to my G. You can't go wrong with the performance of the car, but if you're not gonna push it on the track or in the twisties then don't bother buying the car.

Hmm. As far as looks go, honestly i think the g35 coupe well modded looks even better than an m3, only reason I want the bmw is for performance, however G performance is not bad with some bolt ons. The decision is going to depend on the money situation, I hope whichever car i choose won't be a wrong decision. Il keep you guys updated. Thanks for the advice

M3 with warranty and just remember you maintain cost. But i think G35 looks sexier.
