Insurance renewal - shopping for rates

My G35 is currently insured with AIG and my renewal is coming up in Mar 09. I just got the renewal paperwork, and they are raising my rates 58% !!! I called and asked why. They said they've paid out more in claims in TX then they've taken in, so they need to adjust. Seems awfully high to me. So I decided to do some shopping.

AIG (now) - $515/6 months
AIG (Mar 09) - $815/6 months
State Farm - $1221/6
Progressive - $1196/6
Farmers - $922/6
Fred Loya - $906/6 (local company)
All State - $776/6
Geico - $621/6
USAA - not eligibile

All of these are based on me being 33, single, male, only car, 1 speeding for 7mph over in 10/2006, no accidents, 8 mile commute, 9k miles a year and a government employee.

Coverages are the same:
100/300 bodily injury
100 property damage
100/300 uninsured bodily
100 uninsured property
5k personal injury
500/500 deductable comp/collision

So I am leaning between Geico and All State. Would it be worth paying the extra $150/6 months for All State? I hear they are better at handling claims then Geico and easier to deal with. Plus my agent would then be like 3 blocks from where I live.

Which would you guys go with?

Side note - It's amazing to see how the rates can vary from company to company with the exact same coverage. This is a great reason to shop around occasionally.

That sucks, I like AIG/21st century because of the free roadside assistance. I wouldn't know where else to go.

AIG is a dumphole...

The reason your rates are probably going up is because they can't repay government loans. So to solve this issue, their liquidating their assets in order to pay YOU back (the tax payers). That would probably be the last insurance company i would want to help me out in the worst time. They can't even help themselves at this point...

Your insurance quotes are pretty expensive. I'm 22 and my 06 g35 is costing me $600/6months on my own with an accident on my record and I live in chicago.

I'm with Texas Farm Bureau. They have NEVER been beat by anyone. Now I also insure my house with them and that gets me a 10% discount. I also get a 5% discount for driver training, 5% for over 50, and 5% for something else I can't remember. Having a sedan helps too. Of course WHERE I park it at night helps (out in the sticks). Just two counties over, my rates would double.

Also, check with your states insurance commission, those rate increases sound a bit too steep.

I'm sure I could lower my rates quite a bit if I dropped the coverages, but with all of the uninsured illegals running around here it's not exactly a good idea. I'm OK with the Geico and AllState prices either way.

I will check with Farm Bureau and Liberty tomorrow. Thanks.
