Looking at buying a G35 and need some advice!

Hi, guys!

Well, this is my first post on these boards -- so first off, let me just say hello and that I'm hoping to become an official G35 driver sometime in the near future. .. I used to own a 2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege, which I purchased new five and a half years ago -- and put a lot of time, money, and effort into.

A shot of the MSP in its prime:

But I was in an accident in an unexpectedly heavy snowfall on the PA Turnpike on January 19th -- and my MSP was totaled. It's been like losing my first-born child, but life goes on.

So now, here I am, hoping to get myself into a G!

*content removed since vehicle is no longer FS*

Any suggestions, pointers, advice -- anything is greatly appreciated. Especially what kind of questions I should ask if/when I go to check out a G35, and what in particular I should keep an eye out for.

One question in particular that I have -- do you get any additional paperwork when purchasing a G35 that's been certified pre-owned from Infiniti? I know that having it certified pre-owned results in an extended warranty (http://www.infinitiusa.com/pre-owned/warranty.html) .. but I'm assuming the dealership is supposed to physically give you something as proof that the particular G35 has that coverage. I'm asking because a G35 I'm currently interested has 'an extended Certified Pre-owned Vehicle Warranty' listed in its description, and I'd want to make sure that it's Infiniti's warranty that I'm getting, not some crappy third party's.

Thanks!

Check for oil consumption problem. Also offer no more than 18k to begin with and they should accept, especially if your paying cash. Check tire tread, tires for this car are expensive as heck...

I just read up on the oil consumption issue. My question now is -- even though Infiniti has issued a TSB on the problem, will they honor that on a car that was bought used from a non-Infiniti dealership? When does the powertrain warranty run out on these cars? .. In other words, if I bought the G35 I want, and brought it to an Infiniti dealership to have it checked for oil consumption -- would they honor the TSB, or tell me GTFO?

I've already looked into tire prices for the 19" wheels .. and yeah, OUCH. I might change 'em down to 18" wheels, considering the significant price difference. We'll see how it goes with getting the car first, though.

Anyone else have any advice?

you wont have any problems with either buying private party or from an independent dealership...so no worries there. But regarding other possible issues, do a search on here for "buying a G35" and that should bring up a wealth of information about people who have the same questions as you ie: problems you should look out for when buying a G35. Whatever you choose to do though, buy a carfax report or similar report.

Already got a Carfax report -- the car has a spotless history.

I'll do some more searching and reading!

KBB.com

Check pricing.. You shouldn't be paying more than private party price even at a dealership.

You could even get the car for lower than KBB private party price because of our current economy.

Friend of mine just bought a 2007 g35 6mt with 8k miles for only $20k from an infiniti dealership..

Good luck

So I've done more reading and I want to double check that I have all my facts straight, since I'm now working on investigating warranty information.

- A G35 comes with a 4 year/60K mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 6 year/70K mile powertrain warranty via Infiniti -- and Infiniti will honor those warranties even if the car was purchased used from a non-Infiniti dealership, from an auction, from a private sale, etc. Considering I'm looking into purchasing an 05 model, the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty will likely be expired. However, the powertrain warranty will still be applicable -- so that if I fall victim to the dreaded oil consumption issue, I'll still have my engine replaced under that powertrain warranty. Is all that correct?

- Assuming all of the above is true, I will no longer be able to buy an extended warranty from Infiniti because the original factory bumper-to-bumper warranty has expired. Is that right? Or can I still buy an 'overall' extended warranty because the powertrain warranty is still in effect?

- Buying an 'other than Infiniti' warranty seems to be NOT recommended by everyone on here. True?

I seriously would just get a low mileage 06 or 05 for barely over $20k.

Like the guy said, prices are good if you look around.

^^ Well thanks!

I'm still keepin' my eyes locked on Porter's auction ..

I wish I could post a WTB ad on here, though. Kinda aggravating that I have to wait to make any posts in the Marketplace, but also understandable.
