So I wrecked my beautiful G :-(

Okay, trying to get over the sheer depression......I need all of you guys help. I just had someone tear off the front end of my beloved G. Luckily no one was hurt. My insurance company totaled it out and now I'm looking to replace my baby.

Here's the problem. I had a black on black G. Even all my interior was murdered out. Now, in trying to replace her, I seem to only find G's that have a front license plate mount installed. Mine didn't and I don't want one. My question is this. If a front license plate mount is on the G, can I revert it back to not having the mount and no one being able to tell that it was there. I know that the mount comes out the square thing on the front bumper, but what I don't know is if when you install the license mount, do they drill and use screws?

Does anyone have any advice about removing one of these mounts? How much does it cost? Is it easy? Will there be marring from it? Please help.....everyday I don't have my G, is a day depressed

Most license plates are screwed into the bumper (Ouch!) That square in the
bumper is for your tow bolt but Stillen makes a license bracket so you don't
need to drill holes. (lifesaver) Damn, sorry to hear about your G, no one was
injured and that's a very good thing. See it could have been much worse! Good Luck finding the car you want, don't settle for anything other
that what you want....ever!

Buy a G whether it has plates in the front or not, spare the extra $$$ and get an after market bumper

Or you can always take off the license plate and cover it up the holes wit those bumper hole covers people do on here. I dont know what they are called but here is a pic of one.

I just purchased a 06 G with no plate, I take delivery today, I swear they better not drill holes. I heard though you can mount the plate/bracket from the underside of the bumper. Not sure exactly how but i'll take a look when I get it, and will try to post up pictures for you.

OP,
Unfortunately the front plate mount requires two holes in the bumper for installation. You can remove the assembly, but there will be two holes to deal with. Some use the bumper plugs painted to match your paint......its not as obvious, but it still looks like you removed the front plate IMO.

OP, when I got my daughters G20 it had holes and I had the dealership get their mobile paint/fix it guy to fill them and paint them. Could not tell that they had ever been there!! Also, if you are buying a used G, probably needs the front bumper resprayed anyway.

Chicago where you from, I can probably help ya out on this..

Like some people said..bumper plugs to cover up the holes. Really cheap and easy to make..Or you can just go the aftermarket bumper route and call it a day.

apparently if you buy a car with front license plate mounts, you can remove them and put in bumper plugs.... looks pretty good if you have to do it... bumperplugs.com

Just buy a thing of touch up paint pen thing ($6) a small can of bondo ($15 maybe) and I'm assuming you have some sandpaper already. Have fun!

If after wrecking your G the only problem you can think of is the license plate mount, then I don't see a problem at all.

Thanks guys for all your comments and help!

Scirea: You're right.....im happy everyone could walk away and was okay. It's just that it took me so long to find the right G before, I just never imagined I'd have to do it again.

EndlessWaltz: I live in North Florida.

GaryC: Thanks for the words and advice

My search continues. I'd really like to get another G35, but I might go for the G37. Anyone tested one?????

i have the g37... go for it... interior is so much better than a 35... and so many more things you can play with why don't you just go to the dealership and test drive one for yourself? at first, i didn't like the 37 when it first came out, but it's grown on me and i love every second driving it.
