Question Hello im just new to the community and needs someones opinion with my little problem.

Hi,

Im just new to the forums and kind of needing someones opinion or advice.

Im from Australia by the way and G35's is not made here exclusively. (they are imported)

Over here is called V35 Nissan Skyline 350GT Coupe. I drive 2003 model. Automatic Transmission. (im not a racer but more like a cruiser)

It has only 40,000 KMs on it. (not sure the conversion in miles).

I just notice a notching or grinding noice on the front right side of the car when I let itself drive slowly changing to the second gear.

But after that, its gone.. even if I come from a complete stop and start again. Im not sure if it’s the lowering of the car?

It usually happens only when I let the car rest for like 6 hours or when the engine cools down again then drive it.

The other day I let the car warm up first then I drove it out.. And it made that grinding noice again on the front right side..

So im not sure if has anyone experienced this? because it left me in curiousity. I havent brought it in for a major service as im stil pretty far for 45,000 KM mark.

Thanks again.

If I read your post correctly and I'm not hallucinating:

I believe it's your ABS system and from what I understand it's completely normal...

Hi, and Welcome. Australia huh? I spent 6 months on the Gold Coast at Bond University. was the best 6 months of my life!

since its an 03 you are prob out of warrenty. I would not say that this is normal at all. if it only happens one time everytime you start going from a cold start, that thats the abs (kind of sounds like air comming out of the break lines) but to me the way you are describing it, there should nbot be any grinding noises. Id have it checked out.

Hmm maybe excessive rust build up on the pads or rotors? Then when the car is in motion and the rust comes off then the noise goes away. That is a possibility.

The ABS modulator is known to make a noise on startup when first taking off but I haven't heard it happen on my G. Its more common on Honda vehicles and its happens to my Acura all the time.

Can you possibly post a video?

Sounds right to me also. Does it happen when you have your foot on the brake?

Hello,

Thank you for the reply it helps alot.

I will try post a video of it so you guys have clear vision of what im trying to say. hehe it helps me also from explaining it! =)

the noise doesnt sound airy, more like grinding or scratching but after take off its completely gone. it happens like once a day from when i take it out from garage. or when i i drive the car again after about 5 - 6 ours rest. Even when the car is warmed up, it makes that noise from the first take off. (1st gear to 2nd). so im guessing its not really the engine?

looks like its more on the ABS as everyones input. hmm atleast its not a full major problem right?

Thanks again.

To BostonG, yup from Aus, land of kangaroos and koalas. hehe glad to hear you loved it here. and the best part of it is you went to the Gold Coast straight up, its like the best place to be, having to set aside Sydney.

Thanks again.

Heya Curt, thanks for the input. No it doesnt happen when my foot is on the break. Only does it on the first go when i let it run by itself without pushing the gas. (AT)

I have the same problem Ogz007, but mine does it every time I start the car and drive off from first to second. Even when i turn off the car for a few minutes and turn it back on, I'll drive off from first to second it'll make that sound again. I have an 06 coupe by the way. So can it still be the ABS??

I think its the abs I have an 06 coupe in manual and the noise is heard at 1,800k rpm its a normal check the abs does after you first start it and drive off.
