Paper flows very well and filters very well when CLEAN. When the paper filter gets dirty, flow goes down pretty dramatically. (as noticed)
I put in my stock box and threw in a filter from a Z I had lying around. Was just okay. The next day, I put in a clean K&N and the difference was noticable. Then I put in a clean oem filter. Results were similar to the K&N.

Yes!!
maybe he doesnt drive sprited enough to notice the difference but I agree with you on how people can take care of the outside and not make sure the engine is running fine.
ouch... Buy a filter from Nissan For a Z for like $10 and replace in 5 mintues yourself...
The very first mod I made to my G was to buy a K&N drop in, when I installed
my Stillen CAI I gave the K&N to my son-in-law for their '04 sedan. Three
years later we were cleaning up his sedan in my garage and I inquired when
had he cleaned the filter....he hadn't! I couldn't believe my eyes when I
removed the filter, were talking close to 50K miles. It was sooooo bad you
couldn't see the folds and they're was at least an inch of grey matter
clinging to the incoming side. I spent no less than an hour cleaning and
drying until it looked like new. The next day I asked him how the G was
running and had he noticed any difference, his answer was "not really!"
How someone can take care of the outside of their cars and not be concerned
with how it runs is beyond me....
