How well do you maintain your car?

Do you change your oil regularly within the mileage that you're supposed to?

How about your air filter, etc.

I just had my dealership print out my maintenance history and he'd commented that I'm very good at maintaining my car. He said that most people do not stick to the scheduled maintenance. He'd also said that my car's in great shape considering it's an '05.

Just wondering how's everybody's maintenance habit.

Same here i baby her. She sleeps in the garage, I drive her hard but i take care of her. She is a tad under 30K and need to change the diff oil and manual tranny fluid. I do the maintenance myself and oli change every 3k with castrol snytec and K and N oil fliter. Right know she needs tires but which ones ?

When I bought the car used even though it was fully certified and got a fresh oil change at the dealer,
I went ahead and rechecked everything, gave it fresh fluids top to bottom mainly synthetic if applicable, took out oem filter and replaced it with a K&N drop-in, checked and rechecked tire pressure, lifted the car and checked under for any rust issues (doubtful for a 2006 but you never know), checked exhaust hangers, retightened all the wheel lugs, redetailed the car inside and out, did a once over, then claybar'd the car as well as replace all halogen bulbs with leds (outisde).
Might be a tad bit of overkill, but did it all within 48 hours of owning the car.

 

I do the same. The only thing wrong with mine now is a multitude of stone chips (cheap azz Nissan paint ).

Wash it every weekend if I can.
Change the oil every 3K to 3.5K miles with M1 Syn.
Use Zaino products on it. Hand wash ONLY!

 

Mine too - I keep within the maintenance specs on everything. Am coming up on the 30k service though, where I think you do things like change the brake fluid and flush the radiator? Not sure I'll do those, but am interested in opinions on whether its necessary - brake fluid (for example) is still completely clear.

 

Brake fluid should be changed once a year minimum. It may be clear in the tank, but who knows what is in the lines and pistons. I change mine once a year and I can definitely tell when the new fluid comes through the lines.

If you have a floor jack and jack stands, it's easy to change the transmission fluid (6MT) and diff fluid. I also bought a vacuum brake fluid bleeding system (uses a small air comp) for my home use. I can now bleed and flush the entire system in about 20 minutes and that includes set up. I got it at Harbor Freight. If you change the coolant, DO NOT under any circumstances use any kind of tap or especially well water. Buy the premix or use "demineralized" or distilled water to dilute the anti-freeze 50/50.

By changing the brake, tranny, and diff fluids, I saved about $300 off my 30K service.

 

Yup, I baby mine too! Regular service at the dealer. That way, if the oil consumption issue ever rears it's ugly head, they can't say the car was't properly maintained.

 

Its all about the maintenance! Check the oil every week..

 

I change oil with Red Line/K&N filter when needed or if I'm bored. Just barely
turned 24K mile so with me it will be a time thing rather than mileage when
I get the trans/differ/brake fluids changed....probably this summer. I keep her in the garage or covered if it's a day long outing. Oh yea, like it
says in my garage she gets a full Zymol concourse wax at least every
90 days.

One thing people tend to overlook is the rear diff fluid. I've seen cars go 3-5 years never changed - gets very hot, and the Nissan OEM is dino juice so it breaks down and changes to sludge. AT LEAST every 30k or so, cheap to do, and also consider NISMO aluminum rear cover (<$100) with cooling fins if you live in a hot climate - it's the same as the 370Z cover and even can be fitted with the diff cooler if you're truly hard core.

If you're still running OEM trans fluid, ditch that crap and get Motul or similar. Same for clutch fluid, Motul has a higher temp tolerance, your clutch is less likely to go soft on you when it gets very hot.

Also the Nissan OEM filters are made by FRAM, don't use them - they are crap. Don't know when they changed over, I was very surprised as they used to be very good. Pure ONE is decent, just don't use any FRAM filters or ones they make for other people.

 

I used a Fram "Air Hog" for the OEM box. It's as well made as a K&N, maybe better.
