Oh man, that's not good. You didn't have another set?
If you bought your car from a dealer, try calling them first.

Good luck. I'm curious if this happened to anybody else and what the solution was.

I believe you can bring in documentation (stating the VIN # for the car and that you are the rightful owner to that vehicle) to the dealer and they can make you a new key.

yea but the question is...... how does one make a new key without another to copy?

I think there's a serial associated with each VIN that the dealer stores in a database. They should be able to bring that up and cut you a new key.

they can do it pretty quickly, now if they have to reprogram the keys then it takes a while. My car only came with one and the dealership didn't know the code for the key (the electronic part) so they had to reprogram both plus my car and I had to sit there for like an hour. On the bright side now that they know the code they can make a new one a lot faster.

what would you do if you bought it from a private seller?

why would that matter? You should still have something that says it's your car, like the title, registration, etc. I didn't buy my car from an Infiniti dealership and I was still able to get new keys. I ordered a second key and fob as well as a wallet key (or whatever they're called).
