FYI. I just took my coupe in to the dealer to have my brakes checked (15K miles.) The service advisor informed me that the brakes pads and discs on the G35 Coupes are under warrantee for 3-years/30K miles. Apparently Infiniti Corp realized that the brakes on these cars are wearing down prematurely so they issued a "Good Faith Warrantee" for the brakes. I ended up getting both front and rear brake pads replaced and rotors turned for free (incl. parts/labor.)

Question is do they replace the pads which don't put out as much dust as the stock ones do. Its almost getting out of control how much dust there is. I find myself cleaning them everyday. Granted, I do go through a lot of traffic and rush hour but still.

and the answer to your question is no. they do not replace them with ones that produce less dust. the just give you new ones that are the same type. i know this because i have had it done already, and am gettin ready to take it back in to get some more new ones.

I bet you could take in a set of Greenstuff pads and get them to put them on instead of their factory pads. Granted this means you have to pay for them yourself, but if you aren't comfortable with changing them yourself, easy way to get a free install and that rotor resurfacing added on.

I think im gonna take mine in, i have a big rust ring on my rear rotors and its bright orange after they changed my last brake pads. Wonder why!

Pretty unethical to change the design of brake pads after everyone read the magazine tests showing X feet stopping distances for some pad that is harder and less dusty and takes longer to stop.

Not to say they haven't done it in past [by offering 3 different pads for early Q45] which went from [a very dusty] 129 feet in 1990 to 145 feet in 1994. Exactly same brake components except pads. Put u-91 pads on 94-96 Q and miraculously the brake distance gets better.

The whole improvement [in stopping distances] stems from finding a SUPERIOR pad material that has high initial friction ramp up because most don't apply brakes hard enough in the first half second.......letting 44 feet past by with less than maximum retardation.........that immediate ramp up vs pedal force saves 10-15-20 feet.........pretty good trade off for dust.

How they get 110-115 feet with conventional brakes.

My guess is an aftermarket pad might be worse at least for the intial period [when used by a typical driver] might have longer and longer stoppping distances.

Only a scientific pad comparison will prove it either way. Not some anecdotial "they feel ok to me test".

i had a squeel in the rear at roughly 4k miles adn tehy swapped them out for new ones. they said infiniti are basically using better pads that create less squeel, but now my fronts are 5k miles old and the rears are basically new, when teh fronts have more wear!!

 

I thought this only applied to the non brembo brakes, are brembo brakes now being replaced under warrentee also??
