HELPP!! please :(

ok so IM GETTING A NEW TRANSMISSION UNDER WARRANTY. but the guy at infiniti suggests that i should get a new clutch disc, pressure plate, and something else for $410. he said that i should just get it just in case it goes bad in 6 months or something and i have to pay for labor since labor is free now. what do you guys think? and he said that the flywheel might be cracked and they might have to replace that. because my tranny is bad (i think the synchros) what are the chances of my flywheel being bad? or are there any signs that your flywheel is cracked? Thanks!

May as well replace it all while it is out. but I wouldn't go with OEM. I'd look into something like the JWT setup.

I'd use caution when dealing with the stealership, I really doubt the flywheel
is cracked....how does he know? (show me the cracks) The only thing I'd
pay for would be a new throwout bearing. OEM clutches will last a long time
if they're not abused. I replaced my last one at 118K miles on my Z only because the rear main seal leaked and caused issues. Replace the throwout bearing, that's a must! Is your G still under warranty, don't worry about what might happen 6 months
down the road....remember your at the "STEALERSHIP!"

you shouldnt have to pay for anything to be replaced that is damaged because of the original problem, ie if your clutch mechanism is damaged due to the faulty tranny they should replace it for free as part of the warranty...

i called a couple of inifiniti dealers and they said that when the clutch and tranny are bad, it can mess up the transmission but its not the other way around. so who could i call to talk to about this so inifiniti will have to fix my clutch and flywheel.

Is there an honest service guy or the mechanic at the stealership? Brought my dad's TL in for warranty parts and they started to give me whole punch of bs that the drive belt is in bad shape, need to replaced blah blah blah. Told them just to fix the warranty part, went home and check the belt. Freaking belt is fine.

Anyway, don't believe what they said. Ask them to show you more visual details.

Read carefully....:)

Lara, there's probably nothing wrong with your clutch/flywheel. Like I posted
before have them show you what's wrong with the flywheel....show you the
cracks! Your clutch is also covered under warranty so don't pay them for
something unneeded. It is always a good idea to replace the throwout bearing since that's usually the first thing to wear out and make noise....any Infiniti dealership you call will give you the same line of B.S.
like I posted above use caution!

Lara,

I think everyone is missing the point here. What it sounds to me like is that your dealership is actually a pretty good one. I used to work at one and I would have suggested the same exact thing he is doing.

Your transmission is being repaired under warranty so its free of charge. GOOD. Since the transmission is going to be taken out of the car, if you wanted to replace the clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing (which are generally replaced all at once), then you would be saved the cost of labor since that is covered under warranty. All you are going to be charged is for the parts that may not be necessary but since the transmission is out anyway, why not save the labor?

If there are a lot of miles on your car, I say go ahead and pay for the new parts so that you don't have to worry about replacing it in the next, lets say 10,000 miles as opposed to having new parts that'll last quite a while longer. If you decided to replace these parts, then you might want to do some research into aftermarket clutches as I heard there is less chatter and a better engagement on them.

As for the flywheel, damaged synchros usually do not cause damage to the flywheel so I would ask the dealer to see the flywheel before making a decision on that. If might be glazed and then you might be able to have it resurfaced. I'm not sure if they can be resurfaced on our flywheels but maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in.

Hope that helps.

+1, but you also do have to be careful with some "stealerships"

Yea you definitely have to be leery of some dealerships but usually the ones you have to worry about probably would have given her a hassle about repairing the transmission at all. And remember, if you ever question the validity of their statements, you always have the option to have them show you proof. Every transaction has two parts, service provider and consumer. Its always our job to be the educated consumer.
