How does the coupe compare against RX-8 and S 2000
Re: How does the coupe compare against RX-8 and S
The RX8 is an "uncompromising sports car"? LOL.
The RX8 is a disgrace compared to the RX7. Have you seen the video with a bunch of JDM cars where the DC5 (RSX) Integra Type R beats the RX8?

Re: How does the coupe compare against RX-8 and S
The S2000 isn't as fast as everyone thinks. Sure, if you REALLY know how to drive and you're not afraid of flogging the car, the S2000 CAN be faster. But in reality, I've never lost a straight line race with an H car.
The RX8 is a joke, don't make me laugh.
Handling, once again is a drivers race, but the S2000 is much easier to keep in line. The G35 rotates better with throttle input, but its still heavy and you do need to throttle steer it to work the road best. The RX8 isn't necessarily that much better (if better) than a G. After driving one, I didn't come away awe struck, it just felt a little tighter in the rear end. That's nothing a set of $190 springs won't cure in the G.
Personally, i believe the 3 cars are really in different classes. The G is a lux/sports compromise as others have pointed out. The S2000 is a roadster, nuff said. The RX8 IS NOT a no compromise sports car by any means. Why would you tack on 2 extra doors for a sports car?? Those 2 extra doors sacrifice body rigidity for what? Midget seats?
If I wanted a roadster, it wouldn't be the S2000, it'd be a Z4 3.0.
If I wanted a 4 door, it wouldn't be an RX8, it'd be a TL or G35 sedan.
I wanted a 2 door sports car that can do it all to carry my guns in the trunk and hitchhikers (family) in the rear seat. I got the perfect car for my budget.

Re: How does the coupe compare against RX-8 and S
I watched a video of a road course race [5 laps] S2000,RX8,Miata,Integra , and a couple others I cant remember . The G35 started in back of the pack . By the time the G35 got around all but one of the cars, the S2000 was well ahead , The G35 was slowly pulling the S2000 in closer .By the way the only thing the RX8 beat was the MIATA.....LOLOLOL

Re: How does the coupe compare against RX-8 and S
These are all really different cars, and so how they stack up doesn't really matter as much as what you are looking for in a car. But to be responsive, after coming across the S2000 in my last five track days, and the RX-8 as well as the S2000 at Cal Speedway just last time out, I have the following observations. Please bear in mind, that probably 70% if not more of the results on a track are going to be oriented to driver more than car. When the skills of the drivers become more advanced and equal, then the comparative qualities of the cars may be more accurately contrasted.
On the tracks with the handling demands, the S2000 and the RX-8 are much better than the larger and heavier G35. They are lighter, lower center of gravity and more nimble. The RX-8 may be the best of the three when it comes to cornering adhesion and set up in stock form. I can match up to them reasonably now, but only after significant work to the suspension. The better hp and torque for the S2000 gives it the edge over the RX-8 on the straights and exiting from the turns. Thus, when I have seen the two on track days, the Honda had it all over the RX-8 because of the better power more easily called upon at the critical phase of turn exit and track out.
On the straights with the torquey VQ35DE motor, the G smacks the other two around. The Honda can get wound up high and flogged forward to make it interesting, but it sounds like a sewing machine on steroids, and most drivers don't push it that hard. The RX-8 is so slow that it is embarassing. When they get a FI application to that car however, it is going to be a real beast, and all the smack it has been taking will be forgotten when high hp matches up with its great handling. Just look at what was done to the RX-7 when it was turbo charged, and we will all be better off holding our criticism as the fundamental capabilities of that platform are excellent, even though presently unrealized. Fairly speaking, the same is true of the G35's front midship platform. It is a seriously "detuned" creature that gets some smack from other performance car enthusiasts. But underneath it has the frame for some very serious changes that transform it...something I have been busily up to since the beginning. Certainly the car has capacity much in excess of my driving skills.
On the faster tracks with relatively few turns, and fast turns among them, such as Willow Springs, the G does very well against both cars and has the edge. On the mixed road course, like California Speedway with the extremely fast straight and oval, and the several infield straights that put a premium on acceleration, the G also has the edge, even though there are sections where the twisty elements are definitely faster for the S2000 and the RX-8. (Honda takes Mazda on both tracks).
On course like Sears Point or Buttonwillow, with a lot of demanding cornering and limited sections for high speed blast...the S2000 seems to be the car to beat among the three. But a nice Miata or RX-8 in the hands of a good driver will take the G35 on those courses. If you start modifying the S2000, like using FI, it starts to become very very formidable.
So, it sort of depends where and under what conditions you try to stack them up against each other. But for sliding down the highway at 80mph with stereo on, comfy ride and a weekend trip......the G is so far beyond the others that it defies description, and that is what a touring coupe is built to deliver.
Cheers.

Re: How does the coupe compare against RX-8 and S
Don't expect a turbo street legal RX8 anytime soon. From what I read turbo rotary engines produce cool exhaust, don't ask me why, but it means very ineffecient catalytic conversion which means it most likely isn't gonna meet smog requirements.

In case you haven't seen the video:

16MB, so it's pretty big.

This is also a great vid. Unfortunately it has a Z instead of our G running, but you'll get the picture.

Re: How does the coupe compare against RX-8 and S 2000
Why is it that when people compare different brands, they always try to compare the parent brands? In this case, the S2000 IS a Honda, and the G35c IS an Infiniti. Now Nissan may be the parent company of Infiniti, but there IS a difference between Nissan and Infiniti. Just look at the reliability and dependability ratings (they were recently released by JD Powers). Obviously they are not simply coming out of the same factory and a Nissan or Infiniti badge is slapped onto it.
Re: How does the coupe compare against RX-8 and S 2000
I was mistaken to call the RX-8 an uncompromising sports car. However, I still stand by my statement that it handles better than the G35c. Not that I mind, I'd still take the G35c over it.
Re: How does the coupe compare against RX-8 and S 2000
IMO if you want to compare theS2000 to a VQ35 family...compare it to the Track model 350Z then you have a match. Our G is a different class of sports car .Like other poster says...RX 8..not even in the pic.
Re: How does the coupe compare against RX-8 and S 2000
Elise will be the faster machine any given time of the day. Off track or on track. Elise's performance is up there with Porsche GT3, Modena 360CS. There is no comparsion. G35c is a complete different car. Elise as a daily driver will be equivalent of taking a risk as riding motorcycle to work. Any suv will just run right over it. Forget about going to costco with it too. Nothing will fit. Your teeth will fall off from the grinding cause the suspension is so stiff.

Hey Booger, do you have a link to that video you're talking about?
My friend just drove an RX-8 but hasn't driven a G yet, but he wants the stupid rx8. I want to show him the video where the G spanks his precious weird looking RX.
[edit] nevermind, I didn't read down the thread enough! [/edit]
