Brembos

Does anyone know how much Brembos cost? I am getting a 5AT, which doesn't come with Brembos, but I would like to get them. Are they expensive?

Re: Brembos

Aftermarket Brembo kits are available. I think TireRack.com has a Brembo kit for the front brakes for $2,875.

Re: Brembos

Nope. You can get Brembos only if you get the 6MT. I was really cornered, but decided to go with the 5AT, since I didn't want to learn how to drive a stick on a brand-new 'G'. I guess I will have to wear out my breaks quickly, and get the Brembos when it's time to replace the old ones.

Re: Brembos

I know people love Brembos b/c they look nice and they perform well on fade, but you don't really need them if you are not going on track or braking hard constantly everywhere. Normal brakes are just as good as the Brembos for everyday use.

Re: Brembos

I too have a 5AT Coupe. One can only hope that the next generation of G35c 5ATs can be purchased with the Brembos. Definitely cheaper if bought as an installed option rather than as an aftermarket kit.

The stock brakes are sufficient for daily driving. That includes braking hard and fast for the occasional 55mph dive through a 35mph curve. (Someone's tag line says it correctly. "Straight roads are for cars. Winding roads are for DRIVERS." Or something like that.)

I too would like to have the Brembo's "just in case" but I've driven enough stick shifts in my life that I prefer the AT with the "ManuManiac" shift. I can be lazy and/or economically minded and put it in "Drive" mode or if I want to hit the slopes for a while I put it in "ManuManiac" mode. (Hopefully all manufacturers will realize that an AT in a "sports/performance" car should have the "sequential manual shift" as paddles on the steering column. I can't believe that the Pontiac Goat will have paddle shift mid-year or next year.)

Sorry, I digress.

If "More is Better" is your motto then you should know that there is a brake system that is larger than the Brembos for the G35. Larger diameter, thicker, slotted and/or Xdrilled discs and 4 piston calipers at all for corners. Only about $5+ grand. You can get them with Red, Black or Silver calipers. I don't know anything about the manufacturer of these brakes. I know that Brembo has a good reputation.

Re: Brembos

My 5AT nearly threw me through the windshield the first time I tried the brakes. The stock equipment is plenty, unless you're stunt driving or something.

Re: Brembos

For most every application, the 5AT brakes will be fine. I have a 6MT with the Brembos, but I haven't put my coupe in a situation where they'd be a necessity yet and I doubt that I'd do it very often. For one thing, I think it'd be a good way to get the wrong kind of attention from the cops..

They do look nice, though, and I'm really getting to like the MT now that I've got about 1000 miles on it..

Re: Brembos

Thanks.
It seems like it's not worth spending an extra couple of grand to get the nicer looking brembos. Let's see how the standard breaks hold up.

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question. I just got my 6MT Coupe and my car does not have the gold Brembo calipers. I thought all the 6MT Coupes came with Brembos - am I mistaken?

After the 2004 6MT model....All Brembos were discontinued. None are offered for 2005...Infiniti decided it was a good idea to keep the cost down. If you want the gold you gotta get an 04 6MT or even 03. Sorry...I got my gold. And boy do they look good.

Well crap

So they gave me an extra 18hp to help me go faster, but decided I didn't need help slowing down ... which do I prefer?

I would rather have good brakes...I'm the same boat as you are. I've tracked my car a few times this season - once on a long track. I now need new front and rear rotors, gone through 2 sets of rear brakepads and NOONE makes a high performance pad for our cars. I've had to send my backing plates out to get custom pads. Our brakes are absolutely pathetic for a 3500lb car.
