First, why are you racing with your cell phone in hand? You would think you'd have all your concentration on what was going on, so the ambulance wouldnt have to scrape your brains off the pavement.
I dont think going past redline once will really affect your engine unless your check engine light comes on. I guess it matters how far into the redline you went.

Hitting the rev limiter isn't as bad for the car as talking on the phone while racing could be to your health.
Take care while driving spiritedly---All your attention should be on the driving, not anything else, then you'll prolly avoid redlining the engine.
I expect that no damage was done, but the lesson was well learned.

Yea. get off the phone when driving like that. On the other hand when you hit the rev limiter you arent hurting your engine at all. Thats what the Rev limiter is there for, to prevent you from hitting the real high RPMS, where damage can occur. And since its an Auto, you couldnt have gone too far into the RPM band, as the computer wont let you.

Yea ive hit redline a few times, felt weird but seemed fine. Feels kinda like the engine just shuts off but still runs...hard to explain i guess.

According to Automobile mag nov 2002, hp max at 6200, redline at 6600, fuel cutoff at 6800. Yes, you were feeling the rev limiter. Ugly feeling, and for a reason. If you stumble across the limiter a few times, no biggie. Make a habit of it, and that's a problem. Think about it- lots of air still, but no fuel. Lean. Lean is good for making hp, to a point, but too lean and you get pre-ignition or detonation (which is part of the ugly feeling as the car herky-jerks itself in convulsions of fuel starvation). Lean will eventually result in an intimate discussion between your valves and pistons (readily apparent through a substantial reduction in compression due to a large hole melted thru the top of the piston). Short term you will probably just increase engine wear and put some undue stress on the engine. Will you notice during the warrantee period? Probably not. When do you plan on handing back/ selling? What fun is shifting like granny?
As for redline- very conservative, as seen by the assessment of one of the reputable chipping company's in their quest to find more power. With the AT, it's important to shift a bit before you want the car to do so, knowing there is some gearbox lag. If you hold until 6600, you'll bash the limiter. In the lower gears, snick the shifter at 6400 and the car will actully shift around 6700. In the higher gears, since you're not racing thru rpms as fast, you can hold until 65+, but heh, unless you're racing a guy 0-150 mph, you probably won't be so critical of a 4th to 5th shift.
Now for some unsolicited advertising- with the Ztube, K&N drop-in and GG 5 wire grounding kit, the ratty unwillingness the car is said to exhibit (by every mag, and after comparing I must agree) above 6K is eliminated entirely.
Cheers,
Derek
