people have said when VDC activates, it can produce a slight burning smell from the use of the brakes. And VDC normally kicks on in spirited driving. Also, in the colder winter months I get a burning rubber smell occasionally, but never in the summer.

valve covers are technically covered under our powertrain warranty, 6 year/70K so you may be able to get it done for free

My G does the same thing and I don't have valve cover leaks. The only way to know if oil is seeping into the spark plug tubes is to pull each coil out and look for oil. You can also look around your valve covers to see if your gaskets are leaking. The area by the dipstick tends to always have oil from checking your oil level.

I had a burning smell on my 04 6MT. It turned out my front bearings needed to be replaced as well as one control arm. Roads on Oahu is horrendous and I believe was the cause of the front suspension wear. Cost at Infiniti dealer was $2500 including discounts. Was definitely worth the spend as the suspension sounds and feels tight like a new G.

Depends on the smell. I get a burning rubber smell when I push her hard. My belief is that it's the belts, they're squealing at the moment. I believe they're cracked a bit or just needed tightening. Possibly even a combo of the 2.

Finally replaced the spark plugs. There was a little bit of oil in the top left one. My mechanic said its not really anything to worry about. He said its the valve cover gasket but wait till it leaks more to replace it lol.
