Loose/New Axles

Has anyone had their axles replaced b/c of that clicking noise when the axle bolts loosen up? I had to bring my 6MT in again for them to tighten it up, but they said they are ordering me new axles. I read on another thread a while ago that someone else suggested new axles but the dealer told him that it would just happen again. Any thoughts? Should I even bother with it. I don't think I really have a choice b/c I saw them "tighten" it today and I think it's worse now than before.

Re: Loose/New Axles

Drew exactly what does it sound like? Is it a known problem? Whenever I go down my driveway I hear an unusal noise coming from the back of my car, I have no idea what it is?!? I also would think replacing them would fix the problem. They might have tightened them so hard that the bolts stripped or something. Martin

Re: Loose/New Axles

Yo Martin,

It is a known problem on the coupes, I dunno about the sedans, but when starting to go into reverse and starting out going forward, you'll hear a metal clicking noise, kinda like the same sound a pebble would make inside an empty soda can. Kinda tinny (as in the metal) sound, quick tick tick. I brought my G in on Wednesday to Atlantic where I bought it, they tried tightening it, didn't do anything to get rid of the noise, and managed to nick my rims in the process!!!! Hopefully new axles will do the trick and hopefully new rims too!

Re: Loose/New Axles

I have the same problem, however, I'm afraid they will blame it on the car being lowered and not the real problem. Have others had good experience with the dealers helping this?

My G just started doing this a couple of weeks ago. I think its time to take it in.

Re: Loose/New Axles

There is one other coupe here doing it besides mine, the dealer has a new axle on order for him, and they would not order mine for me until they did his. I hope it fixes it and it does not come back...any ideas what it could be? I am at about one year and 15k miles.

I hope it is fixed, after 50k I don't want to be putting in new axles at 15k intervals, though I guess that saves me the diff oil change.

They told me I was ok to drive, the car is my daily driver, what could go wrong in this situation, if it is left?

Re: Loose/New Axles

Mine makes the same noise. Dealer tells me it is normal though I am very skeptical. Is this mainly a problem in first? Please post your resolution.

Re: Loose/New Axles

I know a couple friends who have gotten new axles and they report that has fixed the problem without the noise coming back. Besides just being annoying though, what would happen if you just left the problem alone? Is it a danger to not address it?

Re: Loose/New Axles

I would imagine so. With the axels getting loose, I would assume eventually they would get loose enough to rely on the C-clip or whatever they use as a safety. If that happens, I would imagin the axels could eventually come out.

Re: Loose/New Axles

so is this problem only for the 2003's?? seems like only the 2003 owners are complaining about it.

Re: Loose/New Axles

My 2003.5 coupe just started having this problem. I hit 12,000 just a few weeks ago.

Re: Loose/New Axles

It's either just the 2003's or that not enough 2004 owners have racked up enough miles which I find hard to believe. My first problem happened at about 3K and now again at 10-11K. I would assume they fixed it for the 04's. I guarantee they knew they would have problems, but needed to get the car out the door. They probably said screw it, we'll fix it later. Who knows!
