aite well ive been driving standard for about 2 years now. occasionally now and then i tend to grind my gears, but every single time its been in 3rd! now im just wonderin wat long term effects would there be to that gear compared to any other gear?

 

If you can get an infiniti tech to reproduce the grind you should be looking at a new tranny. Third gear is the one that seems to go first!

he means if you take it to the deaership and the Infiniti guy has the same problem as you did (grinding in 3rd gear) then they will replace your tranny

 

haha no kidding eh? would u say its necessary for a new tranny? or should i go get a new one anyways just to rip infiniti off? :P

 

that's how they fix it. i'm sure if there was a cheaper way they would but that is how infiniti fixes the tranny grind.

 

I have the exact same problem... when I shift into 3rd, it gets "caught" or hung up for a split-second, almost like grinding the gear. It only happens in 3rd for me. Because of it, I cannot do a quick-shift into 3rd, but instead I have to do a slow and deliberate shift. I was told that I should have the synchros checked/fixed. Does anyone know what that entails and how much it would be to fix?
