Well, VDC does work. What about the tires?
Well, VDC does work. What about the tires?
Ok so I got about 3000 mi on my G and now I'm really starting to get used to it and how to push the limits. Yesterday took a sharp corner doing about 50mph. As I hit the apex of the turn in 3rd gear I dropped the hammer hard.
I felt the backend squat a little then the back end started to drift out. I didn't hear any tires squeeling and had just enough time to see the "SLIP" light on the gauge cluster. I then felt a slight jerk (which I am assuming was the rear ABS), and the car corrected. My problem was the tires. I had been driving for at least 10 minutes already and they should have been heated up. I thought they would be stickier than that. Do I need to got a higher speed rating on my tires?

Little softer tire compound. But you will get about 5k miles out of them depending how hard and how much you drive. Too soft and the coupe will not have the power to even cause silppage and the VDC to activate.

IF you were driving for 10 minutes on a straight, I doubt seriously that the tires were "heated up." In fact, I doubt that you can get a tire into a heat range where it works best on the street, period. Although street tires do have enough tread depth that the tread blocks may move sufficently to generate heat in a few minutes, these minutes probably need to be ones where you are aggressively sawing the wheel from side to side, as you will see on race pace laps. Having raced SCCA, primarily on on street type rubber, for 13 years, I think the above is correct.

oooooo, Bling Bling. J/k Kidding. I know I'm asking alot of these tires and no I was not driving them hard to heat them up. I am kinda judging (though it's no contest) from my old "riced" out civic. I had toyo's on 17's and it seemed like the car would not moved no matter how hard I pushed it or how cold the tires were. But I know there too many other big differences so that really does not warrant my expectations. It'd just human nature. I'm sure once I get adjustable coil overs and some 19's with a little better rubber my experience will change. Thanks for everyone's comments! Peace.
