In the G35 manual that comes with the car I believe it reccomends waiting until 1200 miles...Keep the RPM's below 4k until you've hit that mileage...Thats what I did, who knows whether its needed or not...Some people drive it hard from day one with no problems, I'm one of those your better safe then sorry type people...Especially after 37k and an empty bank account..

I subscribe to that thinking too. For me it wasn't much of a sacrifice to follow the owner's manual, and from what I've heard here, most do.
I also believe the 1200 mile marker is only initial break-in, and that an engine takes much longer to fully break in, perhaps in the neighbourhood of 15 to 20k miles to realize it's full potential.
As most have said and understand: to each his own.

Re: When is the Break-in for the Coupe Auto
I'm personally following the breakin period. Different car, but my S4 burned oil for several thousand miles, may 1/2 quart every several weeks, then never burned a drop afterward. That was a 2001. There is something to proper seating. Not an expert on it, but my experience tells me something goes on in the motor for the first parts of its life.

several tech's from audi and porsche told me that if you baby the car too much it will drive like a baby in the future... they told me to red-line it as much as possible in the first 1-2k miles...

Do the best of both worlds. Drive it under 4k for the first 1200 miles then drive hard until 2k. That should break in nicely.

Very true...I'm at about 16,200k and can I definitely feel my G35 handling better and I also get a quicker response as well. I broke my G35 in pretty early -- probably between 4-5k - that was when I really rode my G35 really hard....since than, its been nothing but speeding and running away from the cops, j/k!

Haha, G35chic, keep that Valentin plugged in (tongue), wish they were allowed here.
Break-ins these days are relatively short and simple. IMHO, the first little while is important to loosen up the engine a little, after that other than sustained high speeds, I think anything goes.
It's certainly no good to baby the car. That's prolly the worst thing you can do.
Enjoy, and be safe.
