5at - lag? solutions?

LOL, I guess you never drivin a drive by cable car?
There is a company that offers a solution to the drive by wire lag.

According to the makers of the Sprint Booster, in ten minutes you can halve the throttle response time at low revs if your car has drive-by-wire. They don't say exactly how it does it, except to reveal that once you've plugged the gadget in, it monitors the signal from the accelerator and provides the ECM "with a new and altered signal." Mid-range acceleration lag is said to drop to "almost zero."
The device will fit Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and VW, among other cars. Sold in England, it's claimed not to affect your insurance or MOT, but it doesn't say anything about your manufacturer warranty. Although with a 10-minute install time, it shouldn't be the least bit difficult to remove if necessary. If those milliseconds you've been losing at stop lights have really been eating at you, the surge you need will run you $330 plus tax.

I guess it only fits German cars.

Well, I didn't get to car to race it, so the lag really doesn't affect me at all. But I do notice the lag when compared to my previous car. Throttle by cable is a lot more responsive.

Yes they do fit our G's

i'm having my grounding kit from sean installed next wed (may 27th 09), so will keep you guys posted. I have the sprintbooster currently installed and all i can say is, the car is VERY responsive... on the highway, if you need to overtake someone, the power is ALWAYS there... no lag...
some people say the springbooster cheats the way your pedal works but i think it does more then that if it can make your manumode shift instantly as well as provide power all the time. (it does however reduce your mpg since you will be more tempted to drive aggressively with it)
my spacers are going to be installed on wed as well so i will be paying more attention to how responsive the car is (compared to how it is now. .which is insane)
you can keep up with a 6MT on a 0-60 or something as the 5AT shifts really fast and holds the gears longer.. my car has been revvin near the 4000-6000 range more often.... but a pro 6MT driver can still take out a 5AT with springbooster.
get the grounding kit installed first, test the car,.....
THEN RESET your ECU and test the car.....
if you still don't notice a difference, get the sprintbooster (100% you will notice the difference)

I'm having difficulty understanding how the sprintbooster affects your shifts, it doesnt alter the tranny physically, and its not attached to the TCM, from what I understand all it does is alter your throttle so it takes less pedal pressure to go just as fast. I have yet to see any tangible proof that it makes anything any faster, anyone have any before/after 1/4 mile times or acceleration videos?

and for the other dude, it DOES shift instantly, and i'm not sure how (or i would be making money selling it right?) . I asked myself the same question about a small device that is not connected to the tranny, yet makes it shift faster, i'm still clueless myself about that... I bought it literally 12 hours after a member here (zeidik) gave me a test drive and showed me how fast it shifts...
i dunno if the lag is for the good of the engine or not, but just driving the car everyday with this is a great ride everytime... how many times have you tried to overtake someone but when you slam the pedal, you have that lag which you need to take into consideration.... well this device eliminates that.... i'm sure its something simple but i dont' want to spend 300$ to take it apart thank you very much.
and instead of asking yourself why, just try it... most websites give you a money back gaurantee... and i'm not sure about 1/4 times but put it this way... a 5At shifts only at a certain rate and even when you floor it, it shifts to 2nd/3rd thus slowing your acceleration down... with this device... when i slam the pedal... it revs to like 4000-6000k and stays there for as long as it can until it instantly shifts to the next gear.... it helps with acceleration... once again, TRY IT BEFORE YOU HATE IT!
my 2cents.
