exhaust broke need help.!

took the car the midas since it was making a weird noise on the exhaust and the muffler was hanging. They told me i stretched out this pipe that goes to the headers and that the only place i can find it is through infiniti. They quoted me $510 for the part and $400 for labor. I don't know what this part is called, but they said its a pipe that can be stretched, but if stretched that it has to be replaced. Can anyone tell me what this part is and where i can get it for cheaper.

BTW i also asked if me getting an aftermarket cat back exhaust system would replace that part and he said no, that i will still need that part for the installation of the cat back exhaust.

he told me these part numbers but i cant find them

20602
20020
206292M
20030B

Thank You for replies.

yeah i saw your review and it was excellent, is the part i need called the Y-pipe and if so, is that included in the cat back exhaust system that i want.

The mechanic at Midas told me that that part was severely stretched out and he showed me. The brackets that hold the exhaust are not aligned anymore from the exhaust as the exhaust is now only holding on to its life by one bracket.

Sorry for all the questions but iam not too smart when it comes to this stuff.

Thank You for your replies.

some cat backs come with an aftermarket y-pipe and some don't the one you want to buy does come with the y-pipe its the piece that is in a form of a Y and has the 2 flex joints that bolt onto the cats...be sure to order the right kit for your car because I see that the picture you have of the aftermarket cat back is different from the original system that shows the part numbers on it

Thank You so Much for the replies and not flaming me. Guess I will be buying that one from ebay and hope it fixes my exhaust problems. It looks like the one I want is an imitation HKS cat back, but will try it out.

Thanks.

The marketplace has tpns of y, x, and cross pipes on it. In your case, it might be the mounting points that are messed up also, so a new pipe may not entirely fix it. Take it to a private shop to install after you get the new pipe.

Just curious, what do you have to do to your car for the exhaust to come loose enough to hang down? Besides Duke boying it!

to the above, you have to hit a retarded placed railroad track crossing that to the eye looked flush and not high enough to hit the undercarriage. However it wasn't, now i hit the crapper and explains my exhaust being messed up.

I have my own exhaust problem if anyone can help. I have the FI Intimiator exhaust. My car was recently seriously bottomed out...that the x pipe muffler was slightly caved in. Everytime between 1.5k - 2.5k i hear a SERIOUS rattling sound.. I looked under the car while reving it up and its the x pipe muffler popping in and out from being caved in. How do i fix this? Take exhaust apart and try to pop it back in place? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
