2003 V35 350GT... Its on its way!

Excuse the length of this Post.

Im a newbie here so Hey Everyone...

The reason I joined is because I have just made a deposit on a 2005 350GT coupe... Yeah yeah!

The thing is it's still on the boat. All I know about the car is what the dealer has told me.

Anyway, when it gets here I have to decide weather to go ahead with the purchase or not. So was hoping to gather as much intel about the 2005 Premium version as possible so I don't buy myself a lemon and get what I pay for. Im preparing a checklist.

What better place to ask than here... Hope you can help! & Thanks in Advanced!

My questions:

1.) What should i look for? - I've been told that its a Premium model. So what are there any distinct traits that I can look for in this model compared to say a base model or an older model? IE: Leather seats? Sunroof? Redlines at: xxxx? Headlights different? Electric options? etc...

2.) I was told that this is a *** Spec - Are there much differences between a *** Spec Premium 350GT, the USA G35 or Euro Premium coupe specs? How can I tell them apart?

3.) I've read that the 2003-2004 models have at least 10kw less power than the 2005+ models. Is this true? (I know 10kw isnt much but thought I'd ask.)

4.) If Q3 is true, Apart from putting it on a Dyno, visually, is there a way to tell apart a 2005 model engine from a 2003 engine (which someone may have dropped in a 2005 body?).

5.) I know they removed the Brembo brakes for the newer models... WHY? Are the new brake system significantly better than the 2003-2004 models?

6.) From an Owner\driver observation, what milage should I be expecting for a full tank in city and highway driving?

I guess thats it for now... let her rip (be as techincal as you want, I can take it). Thanks again in advanced.

1) I have a JDM 2003 350GT 6spd Premium. Its hard with the JDM models because their options are completely different from the US spec cars. I have Brembos and factory tinted glass but have no leather, no nav, no Bose - single DIN stereo, no cruise control and no dual climate control button. My mate has a JDM 2003 350GT 6spd Premium and has all of the above. So the word premium doesnt really mean anything as far as I know with the JDM model.

2) As above.

3) Not to sure on this one, I believe the is the standard VQ35DE and then there is the VQ35HR which is more powerful. I don't know which year they changed over.

4) The VQ35HR has 2 throttle bodies and 2 airboxes, one on each side of the engine bay.

5) Don't know.

6) My last full tank of 95RON got me 620kms of city/urban driving when the fuel light came on. I'm fairly gentle on the throttle but with regular 1st and 2nd gear blasts. The next fill-up took 67 litres so there was still a bit of fuel left in the tank.

Thanks SkyLine250GT! Appreciate the reply.

- Its weird that your Premium coupe is different from your mates Premium coupe. I thought that was the whole point of Model Types... to set a standard above the base models.

- Hey where does your 350GT redline at? I heard the 2005 models redlines a bit higher than the 2003-2004 models. Do you know if this is true?

2005 6MT had the RevUp witch have more HP and yes a higher redline. AT did not have revup

I can get 400 miles out of pure highway driving. City people get 250ish

I owned JDM spec cars all my life and I've found that they can have any combination of options with any body/drivetrain. There are 350GT's here that have a basic cloth interior, manual adjust seats and a basic Nissan single din stereo. And I've seen the base model 250GT with full leather and all the options.

I don't have my car with but from memory I think it redlines around 6500rpm. I know the later HR motor goes over 7000rpm.

Thescreensavers, I beg to differ with you on the gas milage for us city folk. 250ish is B/S, I get over 400 miles a tank on the highway, I average about 480 miles per tank, and average 120 miles per quarter tank on the highway. With a 6MT.

Test drove a base model on the weekend (Auto... Because there are almost zero manuals for sale here in Sydney. Dont worry, the one we're getting is Manual) and was definately impressed with the balance of the car. Love the sharp steering! Made my Commodore SS feel like a bus.

Still another month before it lands... Cant wait!

Check this out guys... FYI for the 2003 350GT models...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_VQ_engine

Check out the VQ35DE section = If I read this correctly, the VQ35DE version: S1 produces 206KW-222KW. And unfortunately this S1 version was installed on 2004 & up JDM models... therefore, for a 2003 model you can expect a power range between 170KW-206KW.

I dont know about you guys, but 36KW is a big gap of inconsistency. Hopefully I read\interpreted it incorrectly.

Now I really want to know how to tell the difference between the 2003 VQ35DE engines and the S1 versions. Maybe there's a plate\plaque on the engine or engine bay that indicates the version.

Tips anyone??
