One suggestion for breaking in your 6MT

I find it just too hard to stay off the gas beyond 3500 RPM so I decided not to tempt myself and now I start in 2nd, shift to 4th, then to 6th... and it keeps me from being too tempted to accelerate too hard... so if any of you just got your G and are having a hard time following the break in guidelines, you might want to go 2nd, 4th, 6th... Anybody have any comments about why this is good or bad? It seems to help me keep my calm and stay mellow...

well, personally i would start from 1st then 2nd then skip gears....
Starting from 2nd will burn the clutch a little bit more than starting from 1st
Just dont start from 5th or 6th LOL mega-clutch-burn+stench

cant edit my post for some reason....

EDIT: Im not 100% sure that the clutch wearing is going on, but thats what im assuming because i've started in 4th gear before (in a diff car-5spd mazda) and it smelled like burnt clutch afterwards

Re: One suggestion for breaking in your 6MT

can somebody else confirm this additional clutch wear from starting from 2nd? I'm not talking about launching here.... just slow as you go till 1200 miles... If that's truly the case then perhaps, I'll do 1,3,5

Remember! Your breaking in the Tranny Too. That means all the gears as well.

RR prolly launched at 5k and burned his clutch in 4th. J/K bro.....

thisisjohnny: Don't think you'll do bad if you start in 2nd and 'feather' it out. If it keeps you at bay 'till broken in then use it.
