cost for snow tires/rims?
I live in NJ and thought I should invest in a winter tire/rim setup for my new coupe 6mt. From reading threads on this forum, I thought 17" ASA KA3 with LM22 Blizzaks seemed like a good combo. I got a quote from Tire Rack for $2670 including delivery/installation/balancing. Seems like an awful lot to me. Any one with a similar combo that can give me some advice? Thanks.
And sorry for the re-post, but I only got one response (though much appreciated) in the wheel/tire forum.

I got a set of Blizzaks on 17" Sport Edition Technos from Tirerack for a little over $1,000. That's plenty good in my opinion. It's not like anyone will get to checkout your rims much in the winter. Just go with a cheap set and save the money for a nice set of summer rims.

I have a set of Sport Edition Fox 5 wheels and Pirelli 210 Snow Sports for sale that I took off my 6MT coupe. I'm storing the car and dont need them anymore. Rear tires have another season in them. I'd part for $800

Re: cost for snow tires/rims?
I'd love to see a picture of the 1k setup as well. I am in the process of shopping for a winter tire combo now myself. Living in NYC kinds of makes it a must. I had my car since January and had to leave her in the driveway when there was a hint of snow in the forecast.
Anyone one there with photos of their winter setups please post! Thx.

My winter setup:

LM-22's on spare OEM 18" set. Not much help, but it's what I'm rolling with. While shopping for 17" winter rims, I found a set of 18's at a magnificent price.

Re: cost for snow tires/rims?
afr0puff, what size LM-22s did you get to match the stock staggered setup. I recently purchased a second set of rims (18"s) and have been looking at getting LM22 tires for them now. I noticed they didnt have the same dimensions as the stock tires. What did you go with and how does it drive in the snow? THANKS in advance!!
Re: cost for snow tires/rims?
Absolutfz, for a winter tire setup 17" wheels are preferrable. The smaller/taller tire is better for the winter season.

afro - did you say that winter tires on 18's are not much help?...

No, I didn't mean it like that. I meant my pictures/setup were of no great help to the original poster because I assume he is looking for pictures of different rims. No one wants to roll with ugly rims for four-five months. So my picture wasn't helping him decide on optional rims.
That being said, 17's are preferable for a winter setup, but you will not have any problems with an 18" setup like mine. I drove them through all sorts of crap we had this winter in NJ. Unplowed/plowed, it didn't matter. I tore through the snow without any issues. Remember, its snowing outside... I'm not looking to win any races or be the fastest car on the road. Just want to get from point A to point B safely. My setup provides that for me. I also have a 6MT, which helps a great deal with snow driving. If you decide to go for a 17" setup, make sure they clear the brembos.
LM-22's are available in the proper sizes. 225/45 for the front, 245/45 for the rear. Tirerack has them.

That's 9 inches of unplowed snow. Never got stuck, never slid, never had a problem staying in my lane, never had a problem stopping, and never had a problem staying with the flow of traffic.
