fuel Tank issues and dealer headaches..input please

I had the problem in 04 when I got mine. First trip to the dealer, they said they replaced the sending unit. Problem persisted, so I took it back. Said it must have been a faulty sending unit that they put in, so they did it all again.
Took it home, problem persisted. Got around to taking it back yet again. They replaced the filler neck. By now, I was into my second year of ownership. Took it back, and they replaced the whole fuel tank. Problem still wasn't fixed. Sometime shortly before the warranty expired (reached the mileage warranty limit in under 3 years with as much driving as I do), I got around to taking it back again. They replaced the gauges.
Well, warranty has long since expired.......and I've learned to live with it. It has always just been sporatic. But between not being able to stuff in more than a quarter tank on occasions, and the fuel gauge reading way wrong, it becomes and annoyance more often than not. My gauge will say I have a quarter tank. Park the car for a short time, start it up, and the gas light will be on!. Drive towards a gas station, and the needle will slowly rise by itself back to reading at a quarter. I've also had it read between a quarter and an eighth, had it drop all the way to having the gas light come on, and proceeding to run out of gas all within 20 miles.
Over five years of ownership and, well, I've learned to only take what the fuel gauge says as a "suggestion". And at the fuel pump, if you only squeeze the handle half way, making the fuel fill much more slowly, it nearly eliminates the premature shut off problem.

Ok now that a lot of people complain about this issue I will tell mine (not to jack your thread bro.) I always fill my Gas in "Shell" since i got the car (w/ no problem) when I traveled to SD I have to filled my gas to "chevron" about quarter empty( it only fill me to half and stop won't fill anymore). I ignore it because I always go to "shell with no problem. Yesterday 10/01/09 I filled my gas coz i ran out I went to "76" and it only gave me 11 gal. so what i did Just run to the nearest shell and filled my gas.. My point is why I don't have problem filling my tank with shell.. "weird i should say."
I have had the same experience so I use Shell only.

hey guys when i started this thread in the summer i have been to the dealer about 9-12 times am a diy'er so all i can say is wait till u have very little gas, and change the hose(see the previos post for the name and deltails) that should initally fix the problem, but take ur time and remember how to run the wire back or you are going to only read half a tank (F would show 1/2 tank), if u do mess up the tank is about 200 bucks, and thats what fixed my problem....i will try to get all the reciepts and post them up of the change log for every time i went...

I found as mentioned here, fill slower. I also noticed some nozzles with that retarded vapor return are bad no matter how slow or fast you fill. One day I couldn't get more than 8 gal into my almost empty tank (fuel light just turning on). Pissed off and annoyed, I moved to a different pump nozzle to continue. That one filled me up with no issues. This was at my usual Shell station too.
9-12 dealer visits = way beyond customer inconvenience. That's just stupid...

Sucks how Nissan can deal with this for our cars. It's practically the same is the 350z...
Nissan is like 10mins away. Infinti is about an hr with traffic. Why can Nissan do it? I mean Infiniti still has to call and confirm with corporate (Nissan) to handle all warranty claims.
Same goes with oil consumption testing and engine replacement. Why can't Nissan do this for us?
I guess Infiniti needs something to do because they're usually empty most of the time.
