hi guy. i'm new to this forum and i had a question. first off, i don't have a g35 yet, but i'm thinking about trading my car for one. i've come from hondas usually (integra, s2000, and now tsx). so basically, my tsx has roughly 117,000 miles. it's a lot. but i'm not even worried about it because "it's a honda." i know it'll be good till 200,000 or more. i think the same could be said for toyotas/lexuses. but i've never owned a nissan and am not familiar with their reliability. the g35 that i would trade for is a 2003 g35 coupe that has 107,000 miles. it would be a straight up trade for my tsx and that's what appeals to me. that it's a straight trade and i get to drive a different car.

so what are some concerns i should have? hopefully i'll get some honest answers. and i was expecting to drive my tsx to the ground (maybe 3-5 years more), but do you think that's possible with the g35 coupe? thanks for any inputs.

 

IMO... VQ engines r solid. i kinda don't like the leather on da seats cuz mines tearing pretty bad.and i only have 36k on my car. besides da leather... I LOVE MY CAR!!!

 

very reliable car. Very reliable engine.....can handle 300k easily with proper maintenance.

 

Why do people think the VQ is that reliable of a motor? It makes great power, but truth is, Nissan puts this motor into many of their different models, and they all seem to have oil consumption issues... not all VQs are prone to this, but it's enough of a concern to watch out for when looking into purchasing a used car with a VQ motor.

Nissans are known for their performance, but no Nissan I've ever owned has been as solid as any Honda or Toyota I've ever owned. But the G35 is definitely a rewarding car to drive.

 

This is the truth. Coming from Toyota and Honda, my G35 is definitely the least reliable and has the shoddiest build quality. But the coupe looks absolutely beautiful and that was the main reason I bought it, I don't regret it at all. In fact this is my second G35 coupe.

 

I have had 2 G35's so far and haven't had a problem with either of them. I've seen a G35 completely totaled (not by me) with all air bags deployed. The police and firefighters said if it wasn't for the air bags the driver and passengers wouldn't be alive. That just shows you how safe they are.
Not only have I had G35's but I also owned a Nissan Maxima which also has the VQ engine in it. I haven't had one problem during the time I owned it.
I've only owned Nissan's, call me biased, but if I never had a problem with any car I owned then why look anywhere else.

IMO Nissan/Infiniti's are build and designed to perform as well as last. Besides the G35 is a beautiful looking car, you will be turning some heads when you drive around.

VQ Oil consumption problems are probably limited to 1 - 2% of all our cars. Think about it - if more than 1 out of 100 G35 buyers goes to dealer & gets tested & wants a new engine at $3k cost to manafacture under warranty that could bankrupt Nissan. The other 1 out of 100 that might have the problem never gets it checked out - the reason they won't do a recall. Too bad we can't get internal numbers to get the real deal!

Shake out problems on my '05 6mt (going on 4 years this week) - throttle body, master cylinder, synchros (got new tranny & clutch under warranty) and speaker rattles. Would I do it all over again - OH YEAAAA! You'll never get tired of looking forward to the drive home - don't know if you get that feeling from Honda or Lexus...

 

I'm in the same boat basically. I currently have a 4th nissan maxima and I love it, haven't had any major problems with it aside from normal wear and tear. I'm looking at the g35 because its a nice looking sports car with a reliable VQ engine in it. What other options? Beamer?(semi reliable, expensive maintenance) Audi?(not reliable, expensive maintenance) Granted I wouldn't mind a 335i but I don't have cash to just blow since I want a lot of others toys haha. So my G35 would turn into my fun summer sports car, and my maxima would turn into my "beater" winter car. Quite the beater if you ask me

 

I think its a hit or miss. 1 out 7 g35's has lots of problems..... Check the reliability rate..

 

they are good.. if you boost em they are even better

 

Luckily for me the only problem ive ever had was with the throttle body and im twin turbo'd.

 

yep I'm only at 37k and owned the car for 8ish months and I drive it lightly most of the time, and I already need a new motor, I'm just n/a, I burned through 5 qts of oil in 1000 miles. I'm in the process of warranty-ing it but corporate Infiniti is trying to give me the runaround, we shall see what happens. I started up a thread of it around here somewhere titled "Oil consumption issue (nonrevup)".

My driver leather seat is kinda worn but it was like that when I bought the car from the dealership, I can live with it although it is a bit ugly..

But motorwise that is my only gripe so far, I do love the sound of it though.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the oil consumption on years 05-07. I have only heard like few people have oil problem on 03-04's?
