The only problem with the G35 was clearance.

I won't hesitate to take it into the mountains during a snow storm (which I have already done many times) to go skiing.

Dude i'm with you, i have Blizzaks on my Rays 19s ( not the best thing) but in NYC we had 2 blizzards and my G has driven good enough. i had my my blizzaks for 3 seasons already and they still have awesome traction and make a night and day difference driving on snow. the VDC system on the G is really good too, i've taken my car upstate NY to go skiing and i never got stuck anywhere or feel like im going to lose control of the car.

Chiming in on an old thread. The first time i tried to drive my G in the snow, I thought I was gonna have to just sell the car. That was on the stock Bridgestones, which suck btw. Pushed my car into a parking spot(I live in Chicago), waited for the snow to melt, and rushed over to the tire shop to get some Blizzaks before the next snowfall. Absolutely night and day difference. Drove my 2DR around like it was an SUV. Seriously you can pretty much ignore any less than 4" of snow. Got some funny looks from people on the street.

You just need decent winter tires and common sense. I have no issues using it as a winter car.

edit: And no... stock tires will not cut it. I could not use my car AT ALL for over a week because it would not move. I had to jack the car up outside (freezing out), and put winter tires on the rear, just to make it to a garage to have the other ones installed and looked at.

I'm in Minnesota fellas - anyone that grew up in the snow belt knows that snow tires are the smartest way to go on a RWD car.

G's of any type or a 350Z even will get by just fine with snow tires. Any type of All-season tire, no matter how good, simply cant touch a snow tire. It helps you get moving quicker, and keeps the car stable at speed.

I drive a lowered 07 G35S with blizzaks and I get by in 4" of snow max w/o plowing; its no problem at all. As the case in any type of snow, drive slow, easy does it and you're good.

FWD cars have the advantage in low-snowfall totals because they can "get by" with all-seasons. Try the same in a RWD car and its a lot more painful.

And anyplace that gets snow, gets the roads sanded, get a clear bra, its worth it...

Personally I'd take sandbags over lead shot anyday. If one gets stuck, one can open a sandbag and pour a little on the snow/ice to increase available traction.

On the other hand, if one had lead shot, and some gunpowder, and a muzzle-loader, one could shoot a pigeon or something to keep from starving while waiting for the snow to melt.

Snow tires are worth every penny when it comes to using the g35 in areas that get lots of snow. As long as there's not a sheet of ice, if one has experience driving in snow with RWD cars, the G will do fine with snow tires. I have a reasonably steep hill, with curves, to climb and descend in order to enter or leave my subdivision, and with snow tires the G will do fine if I drive it correctly. With the stock tires, forget it. Even an inch of snow is too much for me to make it up the hill - even with VDC off.

I've yet to need or use weight in the trunk after I had Blizzaks mounted on my factory rims. Partyman66 mentioned an often overlooked point about carrying extra weight, in that it can increase the distance needed to bring the car to a stop.

Without additional weight, using my Blizzaks, in an area that has some reasonably challenging terrain, I'd not think twice about heading out in unplowed snow of 4" or less in the g35. More than that, and I'll see if I can delay the trip until my wife's Grand Cherokee is available.

Unless one is a physician or public safety employee, there really shouldn't be a compelling reason to need to drive in 6+ inches of snow if the roads haven't been plowed/treated first. It's better to stay off the roads so the snowplows have an easier job clearing the contamination.
