Burning smell when at high rpms
Burning smell when at high rpms
Whenever I accelerate (when having fun) to 5500-6000 rpm on 2 or 3 gear, it smells inside as if something is burning.
Have you experienced anything like that?
When I do that, my car is fully warmed up. I have 3200 miles on it.

Re: Burning smell when at high rpms
I smelled that too when I test drove the 04 coupe 6speed. I also smelled it when I test drove the 03 sedan automatic. I didnt smell it at all when I drove the 04 sedan 6 speed.
Re: Burning smell when at high rpms
I thought it was the clutch burning too, but when I drove the G35 sedan last year I smelled the exact same smell, and that one had an automatic transmission.

Re: Burning smell when at high rpms
it has nothing to do with a burning clutch its just ur car is new and it hasnt burnt through everything.......new cars have a certain stink to them...or it could just be the fact that u are driving agressively and burning gasoline at that rate will cause that smell

Re: Burning smell when at high rpms
It is the Cosmoline burining off.
Cosīmo`line Pronunciation: k?zīm?-l?n
n. 1. (Chem.) A substance obtained from the residues of the distillation of petroleum, essentially the same as vaseline, but of somewhat stiffer consistency, and consisting of a mixture of the higher paraffines; a kind of petroleum jelly
Overseas car manufactures spray cosmoline on as a temporary coating to preven the salt water/air from corroding the cars during transit. by ship. In Port and at the dealership, this cosmoline is supposed to be removed. If not, it will burn off of engine/exhaust components over time and that is what you smell. It depends on how well it was removed as to how much of it you smell. Also, during spirited driving, your car gets hotter and the heat reaches more places that might not have had the cosmoline removed.
