I advise you not to bother "upgrading" to another stock 6-disc Infiniti system.... even if it is remotely feasible. The stock CD-player units are prone to screwing up after 4 or 5 years and then you'll start to get crackling noises from one side of the cars speakers, and eventually lose sound altogether in that side.. but only for CD input. The radio and tape player will still work fine.... there's a well-documented problem that afflicts the ribbon cable that connects the CD-Changer unit to the rest of the head unit.

I'd hate to see you go through all sorts of effort and money to upgrade to the '05 head unit that has MP3 support, only to find out that your unit's CD-functionality is defective a few months or years later. The sound quality of the head units in our cars is junk anyways.

If you care enough about your car audio, your money would be better spent doing an actual upgrade to a double-DIN aftermarket unit... even though that will carry with it the heavy expense of the dash kit on top of the unit itself.
