G Becoming A 180 Mile a Day Driver

Hi Everyone,

So I got this new job that starts in January that requires me to drive approximately 180 Freeway miles roundtrip on a daily basis. I cant move closer to the job site because I just renewed my lease and there's no way i can get out of it.

I want to make it a reliable commuter car. The G is an 05 6mt w/54K on it. Only owner and i have done regular maintenance on it. I'm not mechanically challenged so I can do pretty much everything myself. Any help on what maintenance is needed would be a great help.

I was thinking of performing the following:
Transmission Flush
Differential gear oil change
Spark Plugs and checking for oil in the spark plugs
Oil Change
Air Filter
Cleaning the Throttle Boddy
New Drive Belts
Alignment

Sounds like a good plan. oh man. 180miles every day? That's a far job dude, hope the pay is well worth it. Considering gas is not cheap these days and putting wear to your car.

Hope all goes well with your new job though.

I figured $500 a month in gas based on that i average 26mpg on the freeway going 75mph. Its well worth it when im Doubling my salary a month. The commute will only be for a year then im relocating to the city where the job is

congradulations on a job w/ double the salary, must be a big move for you. I would just do the drive, make sure your tires are well inflated at all times (you loose about 1-2 psi a month naturally). You can do all of that maintenance if you want. I would think that a good fuel injector cleaner would be one of the best things. Replace the air filter with a K & N - more free flowing.

Maybe after a year or so, since you will put atleast 50,000 Miles this car, you may want to look into getting a newer G37 will all this extra money your making

And move closer, unless you want to be going through a car every 3 years since you will be putting so many miles on them.

I do, According to tirerack.com they say that most tires loose about 1 psi every month. I'm sure temperature, humidity etc. play in as factors as well. Also I'm sure if you are doing burnouts/donuts or whatever that could effect it aswell. I know that some tires have been fine for a year straight, others have to be filled once a month. My mountain bike tires always have to be filled, usually every 2-3 weeks, uses the same valve as a car tire.

I don't take advice from Tire Rack. I believe what I see on my gauge.

Thanks for the advice. I do check my tires at least once a month. I aslo forgot to mention that I have a AEM CAI, stillen sways, stillen front and rear strut bars, UR stock pulleys, spc front endlinks. I dont know if I need to do extra maintenace for these mods. I thought about a motorcycle but I have to many tickets and with winter here I dont think its a good idea. I will be moving closer to the job after a year.
Any other ideas are appreciated.

Grats on the job OP! If you just renewed your lease it would be worth at least talking to the landlord/management/whoever to see what it would take to get out of the lease. Rules are different everywhere but I've had to do this in the past and it usually works out to a month's rent and 30 days notice. Even if you live in an expensive area that's only a couple month's worth of gas, probably makes financial sense to do so. In any case, never hurts to ask.
