Smoked by GTO
damnit...so i was coming home from playing some poker with buddies in san dimas, CA. I lost on some pretty BS hands. So i was kinda pissed coming home. I see a car following me pretty close and then he tried to pass me. So was in the mood to [censored] around so i gassed it. He couldnt pass me initially and we had to brake because of a red light.
At the red light, I see this fat *** sipping on a slurpee. I also see a Pontiac GTO. I remember hearing about this car and I thought that it as decently fast. I thought maybe 270 hp, so i wouldnt have a problem taking him.
The light turns green, my vdc is off and im in manual mode in my 5AT. I take off and he floors it too. Im pulling in the beggining and im ahead til 75 ish. Then he flys by me like im standing still.
We get to the next light and i roll down my window and ask him how many horses does he have. He says 350. 350 !!!
damnit damnit damnit...At least his car is fugly

Re: Smoked by GTO
Ya, those things are fast. MT did a comparison test ("2 for 1") against the CLK 55 in May. They did a 5.4 0-60 and 13.85 1/4. And that was the 4 spd Auto. Now get him on the track or canyon roads and you should have him. Unlike Vin Desal I DON"T live my life 1/4 mile at a time. I would like to think I have the fastest car on the road, but the reality is I don't and that's okay. Like you said at least your car isn't ugly. Plus I garantee the G has a lot less rattles than the GTO.
PS. who is copying who BMW or Potiac? HMMMM! That fromt grill looks a lot like the new bimmers!

Re: Smoked by GTO
You've got to be kidding me about the rattles. I love this car more than any other I've had but I've had to address about 4 rattles and 2 squeaks in the first 7000 miles. I've had a couple of GM rattle traps as well, and I agree with you about the superior handling, but I wouldn't go so far as to claim rattle superiority.

Re: Smoked by GTO
Yeah those things are fast. I considered one before I bought my G coupe, but the GTO didn't have anything in the way of amenities, such as sunroof, navi, dual zone climate, etc.
But those things are basically vettes in sheeps clothing. Same motor, same hp, just a little heavier, and not as sexy. GM claims the 4AT in the GTO is only 0.1 seconds slower than the 6MT (5.4 0-60 vs 5.3 0-60). Too bad the GTO only has a 4AT instead of a 5AT.
But I also agree with the previous poster about rattle supremecy. I love my G to death, but my Pontiac GTP didn't have any squeeks or rattles until about 40,000 miles. My G35 on the other hand rattled right out of the box. Though I'm pretty sure I know where it's coming from, I've just been too lazy to try and fix it, as I usually just blast the stereo anyways. The 05' GTO should be a little better though, hood scoops, and dual-dual exhaust outlets... Oh yeah, and something like 400hp Dangit, I need to install a S/C on my G

Re: Smoked by GTO
Well, I think it is impressive that the G was able to keep up until 75mph! We should all be happy.
Unless you've got an M3, a 6 cylinder is never going to win against any V8, particularly 350 hp ones!!
But the GTO is an ugly box, run of the mill looking GM car. Conversely, the G seems to have all the bases covered pretty well - looks, power, handling...............

Re: Smoked by GTO
yeah right until 75ish. at that point i thought he didnt have a chance. my superior horsepower would kill him at higher speeds. yeah i need to do my homework. when he passed me, he really passed me.

You might want to pick up your MT again and read the handling specs of the GTO. It handles very well - close to the G actually. The G has better brakes, but if you think the GTO can't handle, you're mistaken. In the twisties, it would be a driver's race against a G.
Please don't race in the canyons though, unless you have a death wish. Take it to the track if you want to prove something.

Re: Smoked by GTO
I looked at GTOs during the time all the Infiniti dealerships in IN, OH, and KY were not going to honor my VPP discount for a 6M. After one of them gave in, that was the last of the GTO phase. I liked the black and blue interior, but no nav
Re: Smoked by GTO
Yup the GTO's a beastie isn't it?
Not to make light of it, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was laying off a bit to 75. Pretty good car for the money (for performance), but I've heard that there are some fit and finish issues with the GTO. Not good considering this is a production car (Monaro) that has been out for several years in Australia.
I wouldn't call the GTO ugly, just a bit plain Jane compared to the orginal GTOs. The GTO faithful probably love the engine, but hate what the car looks like. With the original GTOs you either loved them or hated them, but at least you had some kind of reaction, the new ones are just vanilla.
