Raced and drove a Boxter tonight.

We were neck and neck at the end since we kept the distance pretty short. But I was pulling away on him and if the race were longer I could have won. The lesson I learned, and the Boxter driver said so himself is that second gear on this car is AWESOME. There is an incredible amount of power in this gear and it's a huge gear! He was able to get better launches than me (he track races daily and I never have), but the moment we hit second, I shot up to him.

We switched cars for a bit and I was amazed at how silky smooth the longer-throw shifter on his was. But I just didn't get the visceral feel I love about the G in the Boxter. It was fast and nimble, had a decent exhaust note, and it felt really light and tossable but I just didn't get the intoxicating visceral feel that I get in the G. No large-displacement growl, no 2nd gear punch, and I just didn't feel as connected to the engine through the numb shifter and the hydraulic clutch on the boxter. The Boxter is a very easy car to drive and it's probably nicer for older dudes but I'll take my G any day.

It was a regular Boxter. But it still runs a sub-6sec 0-60 and I think it's as fast as last year's S. The S only has soemthing like 20 more hp anyway.

I've raced a boxter S and he was able to pull on me after 2 gear. I also raced a guy in an auto-stick Carrera 4 Cabrio, he also pulled away on me. I think past the regular boxter you are just lookin at sheer power to weight ratio and HP. It' still nice to suprise a porsche owner though! Heh Heh.
