Interesting. So is the transmission flush all a big misconception? I always thought flush>drain&fill.

I have an 03 G35 with about 97k miles on it. I bought it pre owned at 68k. Have no idea if previous owner did anything ot the car. I will be doing a tune up around 100k and thought I should do the drain and fill. Talked to dealer and they want 179 which includes tranny filter. I can probably do the drain and fill by myself (at a friends house) for lot cheaper than that. Just wondering if I should do tranny flush. When I asked the dealer if they were doing a flush and he adamantly said no. Sounded like Nissan doesnt want flushes?

Im not sure for infiniti / nissan but for my 07 audi a6 quattro i got quoted 600+ for just the flush.. Its ridiculous

Do i need a dran & refill my 05 AT just reached 80K miles and im not sure the previous owner did anything to it? Can any infinity dealer pull out record of maintenance if i give them my V.I.N number to see if it was flush & drain before?

The auto transmission does not have a filter. A drain and fill will take 3-4 quarts.

You know guys it seems a little dumb to be concerned about a few hundred dollars when a new transmission will cost you $3,692 plus installation. It's not like you need a flush every six months. To me this seems like spend a little to save alot. Just my opinion and I have an 03 with 19,800 miles on it and I have had a flush and fill because fluids age.

where online can i buy matic s tranny oil and how much do i need ??new owner just got mines 2 days ago looking to change all the fluids

i got quoted $340 at infiniti and $245 from Nissan..both use S matic fluid. Infiniti guy said he would give me a 10% discount tho =)

It is very simple to do a drain and fill. The hardest part is getting the car in the air.

You can do drain/fill with 4 qts of fluid and some time.

If you are more inclined, you can do your own version of a flush using bythabay's write-up and do the capacity or just a few quarts.

I can't handle paying more than 80 or 100 bucks for something so simple. I spent about 50 bucks on Matic-S and did about a 5 1/4 quart exchange. 220 is unreal. It takes about ten minutes if you're taking beer breaks.

I highly recommend looking at the FAQ page. It's full of ways to save a ton of money.

Doing a Flush or a Drain & Fill depends upon the condition of the current fluid in the transmission (not just the mileage on the car). If the Fluid is still fairly clean and has proper viscosity then there is no need to do a flush, if the fluid has lost those characteristics and possibly has a bit different odor then it's time for a Flush (otherwise you are simply mixing about 1/3 new fluid with 2/3's worn fluid and within minutes the new fluid will be polluted by the old fluid).

This comes from somebody that was in automotive for 25 years.
