some sound from shifter

whenever i press brake pedal in parking gear, some where from the gearbox(?), very close to the shifter, makes a loud click sound. Why is this, can someone plz help me out?

Also, whenever i shift to Parking, the plastic thing that surrounds the shifter, where it says all the gear names, move back and forth. It moves by hand, too. How do i screw it in place if it's from unscrewed bolts?

thx

Sorry I can't specifically help you with this problem, but I can give you some words of advice. First of all, the noise you're talking about is directly related to about 100 other noises people on this forum claim to hear. The truth is that no one can know 100% what it is, so your best bet is to take it to a dealership...but it honestly doesn't sound like too big of a problem.

And the second part...just find someone on this forum that seems to know a good amount and posts a lot, and send him/her a message asking that question. It's your best bet if you truly seek answers.

Matt

The sound is the locking mechanism from the shifter unlocking. This is why unless the brake pedal is pressed you cannot shift the car into any gear.

i just took it to the dealership and left it there. THere are going to be diagonosing the clicking locking mechanism noise. ( i want this to be gone so that when i sell this car in a few months, the buyer don't get suspicious of what the noise is. People who doesn't know about cars might get suspicious.) ANd tiking sound from right side of the engine. i hope my warranty covers everything.

My unlocking button on a fob is missing, is this under warranty? the lady said it might b.. she asked me if it fell by itself, it was like half talking to herself and half asking me a question, so i didn't asnwer her lol.. if i did say that i broke it, she'll say that warranty will not cover it. haha

I don't see how they are going to get rid of the locking mechanism sound, unless they baffle it with insulation or something. All the G35's do it, but it isn't obscenely loud. I don't even notice it 99% of the time. If yours is especially loud, sure there may be something wrong, but now that you're keen to hearing it, even when it's "fixed" or quiet, you may still hear it. Either way, tell the guy who buys it what it is, and unless he's a moron he should figure it out.
