I only pay half my insurance.... until I'm 21. I sure as hell wish someone would buy a car for me and give me gas money!

Money does not displace experience or maturity. You may be 15 or whatever and have 7k in the bank. Great, props for being disciplined and saving. Either way when you're on your own and adrenaline/hormones are pumping, bad **** can happen. Especially with that little VDC OFF button tempting you.
Anyways, buy the G, just not a salvaged one. If I remember correctly you said you were looking at a 05 6mt? Those are REVUP motors. Have you researched common problems? Oil consumption? What about the feathering tires? There are tons of small things that add up. Don't go out and spend every cent you have buying the car. What if after 3 days of owning the car, the belts break, tire blows, tranny goes out, etc.

well i was in the market for a 03-04 6mt or 5at, i don't trust 05-07 cause of the oil consumption problem, i would have had the guy take it to the dealer and tested it, run it for another 1k miles, since it was a DD and see if it was wrong, but i guess this one is not the one for me. by the what it was 5AT.Originally Posted by Footballmania32
So this is one great thread. Made me laugh.. especially Skyline's posts. Anyways, I was at work one day (I work at a restaurant) and some 16 year old punk came in. He had a nice set of coils on it and plenty of other exterior mods. So I just asked him about his suspension set up. Got to ranting about it, and he felt like a badass since I was asking questions about his car. My point? He fishtailed the car out of the parking lot, did a complete 180 and pretty much knocked the rear axle off the car. Money does not displace experience or maturity. that VIP 05 g really looked like a POS.
with 22s on that car, you know it came from an awesome hood
but i was in the same situation as you OP a year and a half ago (nearly 16years old looking at Gs...) i suggest you only get a G if youre parents are paying for gas, insurance, maintenance. my parents offered to buy me a new car too, but i just decided to quickly buy a used G for cheap (not quite as cheap as a 7k though because 7k g35 coupes didnt exist and still are sketchy now if they do exist). its been awesome because of the stares & compliments even though its such an old car (i have an 03).
But seriously, if your parents offer to buy you a brand new car, take it. (genesis coupe would be my #1 choice until the FT-86 is released
)
i regret getting the G now because a year later, my older brother gets his first car & its a brand new IS250. a used car with subpar interior & horrible gas mileage is just uncomparable.

Salvage title fail. I personally wouldn't do it. If you really want a car with your budget, look into a different car. If you like tuners, may I suggest maybe an S13/S14? Or even RX7. Classic.
But, if you want to continue on with the purchase, I know somebody who bought a salvage G35. It all looked fine, but couple weeks later, he begins leaking oil. His engine had a crack in it. Took it to Beshoff Infiniti and he dropped MAJOR CASH (thousands) to repair the engine, actually I think he just had to replace the whole thing. He also was missing some bolts in the engine bay, and he found out the fender wall lining in the front wheel wells were cracked. Salvage titles are a RISK.
You may be able to afford the car, but can you afford to fix the possible repairs? If in doubt, look for something else.

^S13/S14 is a good idea. Also a z31 (aka 80's "boxy" 300ZX) it's a cool classic, I've been looking for one of these myself.Originally Posted by chrcarlo

Wouldn't go with an RX7... they break alot. Cool looking car, and absolutely unbeatable with an engineswap.

Ahh. yes. Almost forgot about that. So, there you have it. S13/S14/RX/z31. I'm sure there are plenty of other choices, that can be bought without a salvage title.
I think these alternatives will be better than a Salvage G35. Not to mention they look damn sexy when tastefully modified.

I'm pretty sure RX7s cost just as much as G35s and cost way more to maintain. I agree with the 240 though.

RX7 is no car for a 15 yr old. Hell, an RX7 is no car for me either, and I'm 22.
My first car was an Infiniti i30, 2001. Great car, looked awesome and had enough power to make me feel like I could do something stupid.
I suggest a 240 for sure, great cars to learn on, easy to fix and you won't be too pissed if you ding it up here and there.

this reminds me of all of the posts on the Mustang GT board a few years back...16 year old bought/given one. hundreds of posts as to what he was going to do to it when he got it....first day in school, lunch time, he loads up with three of his friends. They drive out of the school yard to first stop sign.....HE DOES NOT STOP...goes through intersection and get hit broadside..he and three of his class mates DEAD, it was in all of the local papers for weeks....I used to hate it when my parents used to ride herd on me.....but I'm still alive

[/QUOTE]Can anyone tell me what kind of wheels these are? Sorry for the off topic post. I like them

@ Skyline
I've never researched the percentage of Gs with the OC problem. But if he's buying salvaged, you never know!
