Side of car and parts of hood... when in sunlight
When in the sunlight at certain angles my car's side body and hood will have this very weird look... like... it's a cosmetic mishap... it's all "FILMY" looking... it's not a smooth clean from end to end, but like certain SMEAR looks ... I clean my car with dishwashing soap... and I dry it w/ a microfiber cloth... but it's still funky like that ... like STREAKY but thicky streaky that's nasty... any idea how that came about? And how I would get rid of it for a solid clean?
Thanks
Thanks

You're joking right? You dont seriously use dishwashing soap.... that strips the paint.

i dont think it strips the paint. people use dishwashing soap to take off the wax and reapply afterward to remove impurities. Maybe its because you dont put anything on after the soap so patches of your paint have lost the reflective effect

Um I think in dishwashing detergent, they add a higher level of enzymes that eat through the paint.

Ack, my newbieness has cost me it seems =T
What do you guys recommend I go through at this point? I plan on claybarring my car this weekend (going w/ CLAY MAGIC)
Anything else I can do to smooth out the paint? I'm assuming clay bar should take care of all

Take it to a professional detailer and have them work on it.

Dishwashing is the best thing to wash a car with. YOu just have to stay on top of waxing it. It removes impurities, keeping your paint looking better longer. I used to work for a professional detail shop and that was what was used. We would always replace the wax after the wash. I used that technique on my MX6 for ten years and the paint looked brand new when I sold the car.

No need for a professional detailing, you can do it yourself but it takes several hours.
Here's the steps to take....since you've already washed your car w/ dishwashing liquid already, you should stop that. Use some good quality car-wash, clay bar it, then wash it again to get the residue off. Then check your paint to see if it has that streakiness still. If it does, do a test and put some wax on it to see if that takes it away. If not, then you might want to take it to the dealer because there is a problem.
If it's good, then finish waxing/polishing. Many people recommend Zaino products. I bought the whole kit and did it last weekend and it is very good stuff. Meguiars makes good stuff too but it doesn't last as long I've heard.
Let us know your results!

There's nothing wrong with using dishwashing liquid on the paint. It may, however, take it's toll on the rubber trim.

Hold on a minute, so you're telling me that Dishwashing soap is a good product to wash your car with?
Kahboom: Which professional detailing shop do you work at? I'll be sure to NOT go there.
Someone PLEASE tell my why Palmolive isn't next to the Eagle One Car Wash and the Turtle Wax car wash soap at your local Auto parts store? Is it just marketing? Has the dishwashing mafia been keeping a secret from the automotive cleaning companies for all these years!?!?
I'm not saying it's "bad" for your exterior, all I'm saying is "you've got to be kidding".
If I found out my local professional automotive detailing shop was using DISWASHING LIQUID, I would first throw a hissy fit, then I'd have my lawyer present to 1) get all my money back 2) close this professional detailing shop down for not telling people they're using DISH SOAP on the customers' cars.

Shut the <font color=blue>smurf</font color=blue> up! Right in the <font color=blue>smurfin'</font color=blue> parking lot?!
<font color=blue>SMURF</font color=blue> YEAH! That is freakin' <font color=blue>smurf</font color=blue>!

Whatever happend to the "common knowledge" that such harsh soaps would eat away the clearcoat as well as the wax?

Re: Side of car and parts of hood... when in sunli
I think you'd be surprised that many popular products made specifically for washing cars are harsher (ph) than dawn. With that said, the common consensus seems to be that dawn can be used a couple times a year without issue. However, even the staunchest naysayers can't point to any real evidence that regular repeated use will indeed hurt the clearcoat and paint.
Re: Side of car and parts of hood... when in sunli
Last weekend I saw a woman in an apartment complex soaping up her Camry by applying dishwashing soap to a sponge and then applying it directly to the car. I was in shock but didn't say anything. That is the worst idea I've ever seen.
Dishwashing soap will deteriorate the rubber trim, so i've heard, not to mention strip the wax.
