Before I bought my car I was looking at the wimpy 2005 C230 Sport Sedan (nice looking though). Thank God I did not get one. Anyways, you can get these illuminated door sills for the Mercedes that light up blue when you open the door and says anything you want.
I think this would be cool on the G!! Maybe orange to match the dash color. Anyone ever seen these for the G 35 Coupe?

No I never have, but that's an awesome idea. I would love to have those because my dome light is never set to be on. Sometimes it's difficult for my passengars to see where they're going, but these door sills just might be the trick.

Yeah, the ones I saw for the Mercedes C230 Sedan did not throw off too much light(Blue), just mainly for looks. But Im sure you could see the door sill better so people don't drag their feet across it and scrath the metal!!!!!!!! I wish someone would make these. That gives me an idea................

Done and done! I have a great idea! My friend can put the original door sills on his waterjet machine and punch out INFINITI nice and neatly. Then what you do is get some clear 3M clearbra-type material to protect the whole doorsill from the top, and underneath you put blue cellophane and a bulb underneath. He's at a tool show in Chicago, when he gets back, I'll definately work with him on something like that. I love the illuminated door-sills!!! I had them on my ML430.

illuminated door sills would be awesome. lets have this started asap.

 

I've actually tried to start this project....

1. I bought 2 extra INFINITI door sills.
2. I got blue EL wire from directron.com which can be wired to your car's electrical system.

I tried to separate the aluminum trim from the plastic door sill but its glued on there pretty tight. Next try will be to use a heat gun(similar to a hotter hair dryer to remove wallpaper) from Lowe's

I also tried dremelling the aluminum with a high speed cutter for metal to cut out the INFINITI lettering. Its pretty tough and thick... I was trying to see if there was a tin snip small enough to use.

This project has been sitting in my garage for a couple months.....haven't had time. Will post pix once I get it started againand what I've done so far.

If anyone has ideas on how to *cleanly* cut out the INFINITI lettering on the aluminum trim, please let me know....this will be the toughest part unless I had an industrial press that could stamp out the INFINITI lettering cleanly and sharply.....

I posted a similar thread 10 months ago when I first purchased my G coupe....and still no illuminated door sills on the market. I dont know. I feel the aftermarket has been pretty slow to embrace the G35.

Look at Honda. They have EVRYTHING for evry model year of their cars. I have a 98 accord also. Havent done anything to it.

At the pace we're going, we'll have illuminated dorr sills for 2004 G35's in 2008. What good will that do?

DJM- My mom has a C230 Kompressor sport sedan. Bought it late last year. It's not a bad car. Handles and feels pretty good. But....good thing you chose the G. There's just not comparison.

You might wanna try drilling a small started hole in the center of the letter and then us a fine tooth jigsaw blade in a jig saw to cut it out. I would reco to cut just inside the lines of the letters and then clean it up with files. It will take you forever, but should work!

 

If anyone has access to a mill or has a hook-up w/ a machine shop, milling out the letters would seem to be the easiest way. It will still take time though. Good thing "Infiniti" is a much shorter name than Mercedes Benz. That would take twice as long! LOL
