Exclamation Car Shuddering / hesitant above 2k after BIG puddle

Well, I had a pretty scary incident tonight. I was driving home from a friends house and caught a HUGE puddle. I'd say it was up to the grill at least. I was doing 40 when I came on it, and powered through it since I didn't see it at all until I was in it.

Car started hesitating and jerking anywhere above 2k. It would "cough" up and down from 2k - 2.5k. If I left it below 2000rpm, it was fine. I pulled off once I had a shoulder and shut the car down. Let it sit for 30 and started it up, it sounded fine. Revved the engine up to 2k, then 3k, then 4k, still fine. So I just drove off. I was on the highway doing up to 75 on the way home and it felt fine also. The only thing I would say is that it may be a TAD bit sluggish, but BARELY noticable.

Any ideas / suggestions? I'm not driving it again until I take it to the shop monday, I'm having brakes installed anyway. I'll have them take a look there.

Sounds like your engine may have ingested some water. Not enough to hydro lock it though. Check you air filter to see if it is wet.

Already did, there were a few droplets on the cone but nothing major. I have z-tube and JWT pop charger. The only thing that confused me was that it ran fine below 2k, but would shudder BAD and bounce from 2000-2500rpm. This was for about a half mile until I had a place to pull off and shut it down.

It ran absolutely fine after I started it up. No issues whatsoever after 30 minute shut down. Like I said maybe a tad sluggish, but I could just be overanalyzing for problems after what happened. I drove over 40 miles and 70mph+ on the way home.

I'm going to have them check all the fluids, especially oil. Probably just have the oil replaced because if any water at all got in, thats major issues.

What do you guys think I should have them look at / do? Any issues I should look out for now that this happened? I was convinced my engine was f***ed and was freaking out, especially after just reading that an engine replacement was over $9,000 and out of warranty.

Sounds like you may be fine. Definitely change your oil.

The air intake is probably dry by now, but if it is not allot of work, I would disconnect part of it and make sure it is dry.

Btw, if the engine did hydrolock and fail, full coverage insurance covers that.

Good to know. I already took off the cone filter and it was completely dry inside. I'll have the shop change the oil as well.

You didn't hydrolock or anything.. In order to do that your filter would have to be completely submerged in a puddle of water.

I once washed my filter with a hose.. I had to go to work so I put it back in while it was damp and my car was sluggish and wouldn't go passed 2500 rpm.. Once it dried up it was fine.

Yeah this is what I figured. I'm having them do the oil change when I get my brakes changed and the axle click fixed tomorrow. Then its off to the body shop to have the passenger door buffed out.
