Dang Service engine light!
Dang Service engine light!
While driving home today my service engine soon light turned on. Wasn't really doing anything out of the ordinary. Gas cap is on tight. Oil is fine. The car is running normal. Should I be worried? BTW, the light isn't blinking, just on constantly. Anyone know whats going on? Thanks in advance for any replies.
Re: Dang Service engine light!
You have no reason to be alarmed. The light indicates exactly what it states, "SERVICE engine soon." It is not a "Check Engine Light," nor does it mean anything is wrong with your car. It simply notifies you that you are due for a service. When the car feels that it needs a tune up, which is indicated through either time, mileage, or any other type of gauge, the light lets you know that you should bring it in to the dealer. This service may range from duties such as oil change proffessional tire pressure check.
Once the dealer has "serviced" your vehicle, they will manually reset it for you (turn the light off). If you are a "do it yourself" kinda guy/gal, there probably is a way for you to turn it off youself. I never experienced the light, so I have not figured that out yet. I remember that my previous car required a sequence of key turnings and holding buttons to turn it off and my car before that had a specific button for that purpose.
Once again, this light does not mean that you car is broken. It just needs a little "tender love and care."

Re: Dang Service engine light!
Only drastic out of range situations turn the OBD2 light on whenever the ecu estimates emissions exceed 150% or more of gov regulations. Or a sensor signal has failed [not within a broad allowable range].
All sensors has a software backup to try to keep the engine running. When you get a light and speed/ rev [3,000 rpm]limits imposed you then know the problem requires instant attention.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm taking it in on Friday. I'll let you know what comes of it. I have the Stillen intake and z-tube. I hope it doesn't void the warranty on any maintenence needed.
