Diagnose oil prob. costs??

Ok so the dealer wants to charge me $160 to diagnose the oil burning problem on my car. This is to flush the engine and do an oil change. I just had the engine flushed around 5k miles ago. and they want to flush it again. So how did the dealer diagnose everyone elses problem??

Re: Diagnose oil prob. costs??

Ok I was wrong, they only flushed the throttle body at the last service. They didn't offer to flush the engine but thats another story. Any way I'm picking up the car and taking it to competition cause I'm tired of Massapequa. I'll be honest even if it ends up I have to pay to get the engine flushed I'll pay it at Smithtown.

Which brings me to another point. If I do flush the engine and the oil continues to burn then why should I have to pay for something that does not fix the prob. I mean would the deposits in the engine cause it to burn oil on such a high level? This is gonna be Fun!!

Re: Diagnose oil prob. costs??

Normally a flush is tried to release sticking rings caused by oil breakdown products [sludge and varnish] caused by not following the 90 day 3750 mile oil change interval.

But in the G's case it appears they might also have a problem with ring tension [or all rings lining up with the gap at the same location] and floating liner insert composition on a few engines.

They've shipped over 250,000 V6 engines by now they should be getting a handle on the problems and solutions.

Obviusly our EXTREMELY HIGH SULFUR gasolines are [may be] causing problems here that are not showing up in Japan.

Re: Diagnose oil prob. costs??

So Could it be the case that I am burning oil because the engine needs to be flushed? Or is it the engine that is mesed up? For what it's worth I use for the most part the expensive gas at sunoco (usd to be ultra 94 now ultra 93) and Mobil1 synth oil while folowing the oil change interval to the T Don't know if that makes a difference or not. Actually I lied I do the oil every 3k. LoL now plus a fresh quart every 1k. I dont see how I can have much of a buildup in there, at least from my doing.

I am just having a hard time justifying spending money to diagnose a prolem that should be under warranty. Is the engine flush a regular maintenance item at 30,000 miles. In other words should I have it done anyway? Then if I have it done and the engine still burns oil I spent an extra $120 for nothing? This confuses me. I have an appointment for next week to drop the car at Competition and see what they say.

Nick,
Talk to Lauren or Reid at Competition. They are both very helpful (and Lauren isnt bad to look at)

GforceI,
How many miles do you have on your car?
