i need to change oil
Mobil 1 and use their oil filters too! I put 125K miles on my last Z using Mobil 1 couldn't have had better results. I wouldn't use Castrol because I absolutely hate that commercial....

German Castrol 0W30... the only oil I use in my G35.
You can pretty much only buy it at Auto Zone, and it's a real Full Synthetic, unlike regular Castrol Syntec, Mobil 1 and most of the other "synthetic" oils that you can buy off the shelf.

Partyman what is your definition of a real full synthetic, Do you know how its different then a regular oil.

There's truth to the German Castrol thing, been debated all over the web. Even so, I'm in the M1 camp. Good enough for factory pre-install in Corvette's, good enough for me. And I can buy it Walmart.

No, but seriously... to make it simple, basically all the "synthetic" oils that you buy at stores such as Mobil-1, regular Castrol Syntec, Penzoil, Valvoline, etc. are made from a petroleum-based crude stock. That just means that they are based off of dino oil that is pumped out of the ground... and it is then modified with a lot of fancy modern technology and synthesizing processes to make the oil better than just the regular petroleum-based oils(non-synthetic). These types of oils are called "Class III" synthetics.
Then you have Class IV synthetics(and also Class V synthetics), which are "true synthetics". These oils are based off of Polyalphaolefin(PAO) rather than petroleum. This type of oil lasts longer than Class III synthetics because they don't require all the fancy additives in order for the oil to have it's flowability and lubricating qualities.... those chemical additives in Class III synthetics generally break down and wear out with use in the motor, and when they do, the oil becomes less efficient at performing its job. Class IV synthetics also don't hold dirt as easily as Class III synthetics.
That should be about all you need to know about it.
Regular non-synthetic oil = Sufficient oil in most cases, cheap, readily available at any auto store
Class III Synthetic Oil = Great oil, more expensive, readily available at any auto store
Class IV or V Synthetic Oil = The Best and longest lasting oils out there, slightly more expensive than Class III synthetics, Not as readily available unless you order it or know where to look for it

It's a really really long and complicated discussion... regular synthetics vs True Synthetics. If you want to read all the details about it, your head might spin by the time you're done trying to comprehend it all.... but all the info is out there on the web if you really want to find it. I've read most of it because I'm a dork and thought that knowing a lot about motor oil would be an impressive thing to talk about with women on dates... I was wrong.
