Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

Dealer will tell you 6MT in late December, most likely a little later. 5AT... who cares, get the stick.

Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

Oh and I spoke to the dealer this morning and they're expecting 5AT's in Nov and 6MT in Dec... I still think they're pushing it a little.

Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

well back home, somewhere in Asia, if you drive a stick, you're either lazy or a sissy. stick cars are what we grew up with, about 95% of them on the road, be it trucks, vans, suvs. even cars in driving schools are stick. i guess the main reason was auto trannies are more expensive to buy and repair. and traffic is worse than NYC.

sorry to hijack. now back to 2005 G35coupe.

Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

I think driving a manual stick is fun. Fun for about a month, but then gets real old real fast. I do not know where you people live, but I live in a real city with (sometimes) real heavy traffic. Yes, it sucks sometimes . . .enough to make want to move? . . . . never. City living is good where I live. I love it. So, to drive an automatic is not a disadvantage but rather a HUGE advantage! I can drive just as fast as someone with a manual. It makes absolutly no difference. It's simply a matter of personal preference.

Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

manuals are gong out fast as SMG gen 3/4 come out with 7 and 8 speeds - M5 with a v10 will have the same shfiting action as my 5AT...click up - click down for a gear. No pedal - it may have a clutch but you won't feel it. More and more gears make manual shifting slow and obsolete...and dammit I'll miss it but I aint moving either.

Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

I myself am a city boy and am FINALLY moving back to the city (NYC) but refuse to give up the thrill of a stick car, but as you said it is truly a matter of personal preference. You're also going to hear from alot of people that we drive sports cars, not minivans. The true heart and history of a sports car is a manual transmission...period. (no need to give a nasty reply, it's a fact)

Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

I think that the major problem is the fact that there is a superiority complex that some 6MT drivers have (NOT ALL). I have yet to meet but one 6MT on the "track" that was able to pull on me and that was after about a second in third gear and he pulled a whopping 5 feet and he was modded with an Intake, likewise am I. I think that many are just underinformed as regards the difference in the G both trannies. As far as the mags are concerned. People do too much mag racing. Those numbers are the best numbers that they were able to obtain after oftentimes multiple runs trying various techniques- normally pre break-in. As far as gearing is concerned, from what I have learned, a torque converter will make adjestments, under load, under various conditions.. so gearing is not always the be all tell all in an auto.

Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

Manuals arent "on the way out" and they never will be. It all started with shifting you own gears (when the first automobiles came out) and if its "too tough to drive in traffic" you dont belong behind the wheel of an MT car, period. If your going to complain, get an AT. If you complain even once, then you dont know what having a MT is all about. You tolerate the bad (traffic) for the good (Wide open roads, road courses, the satisfaction of knowing YOU are driving the car, no offense but AT in simple terms would be simply Point and Click, and its the whole thrill of holding gears hard into a turn, or slamming out of your first few gears that make your car feel like YOU are in control of every aspect of it.) While yes, AT's are becoming "smarter" and "faster" they dont see the traffic infront of you and adjust based on that. I fully understand and agree with MANY of the AT drivers on this board, its great to have in daily situations. I think people who grew up in a manual understand it more than anyone else, once you get used to it, you cant sit in an auto. As far as more and more gears make manual shifting slow and obsolete... Ive driven a 10 speed truck before, just because theres more gates, doesnt mean you slow down. While your AT is built for comfort, an MT is built to be driven HOWEVER you see fit. Want to granny the shifts like an auto does, hold the gear a little longer, shift a little lighter. Want performance? Slam every gear up to 6th (and hopefully those red flashing lights behind you dont catch up) Its part of the heritage of the automobile to come in manual trim. Saying its going out is just ignorant.

Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

I agree that it's not going out. Keep in mind that many aspects of the MT are being incorporated into AT trannies. In the G you can control gears, hold gears in MM mode. The only major difference is the clutch. I grew up driving some manual cars and I do not agree that once you drive a manual, that is all you wil ever be happr with. 10 years ago I would not have bought this car in an AT but times have changed... and to each his own... I actualy feel like I am DRIVING my AT, so it's all about personal choice.

Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

And I think it's safe to say that this thread has been hijacked into a AT vs MT thread...
and just to stroke the flames a bit, personally i would never want to buy a sporty car with an AT, i love being in control of the engine, and while most new AT's have a manual mode, its just not the same and doenst give you the same control..
Plus, I drive everyday in Detroit traffic with my current car which is also a stick, the good of driving a stick definitly outweighs the bad... but everyone has to make that decision themselves.
to each his own.

now back to discussing the 2005's
