Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

ahhhhh not sure if its been discused (although it had to have been) but i dont see the brembos on any of the pics. tell me they are still selling it with the brembo package! actually it would be nice if they didnt considering i would be one with the brembos and newbie ownes are S.O.L. anyone know why no more brembos? are they using other aftermarket (good) brakes? i will say that my brakes have been squiking as of late and i know they are not wron down. i have heard of brembos (on other cars) squeek. could this be the reason? thanks al!

Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

Offsets for the 19's are +33 rear and +30 front. We installed the winters on a brand new 05 with 19's...apparently the brakes are off the M45. Nowhere near the size of the brembo but still suposedly a good system...also many wheel options are now available.

Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

so what is the reason why they opted for the others rather than the brembos? is it because the squeking? on that note what can i do? what will the dealer do about my squeking? i dont want them to replace them with those new ones but im not sure what else they would be able to do about. any have this problem? thanks RX

Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

Drove a 2005 G35 Coupe with sport package today. Unfortunately it was an automatic, but here are my thoughts.

Liked the new interior in pics, but not in person. Looks cheap - especially the top part of the dash.

Love the 19" wheels, love the car's handling, love the power steering column, love the power back seats.

Gauges were okay, but not great.

Love the new steering wheel.

Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

Damn... been awhile since I've posted or even hung around this forum. Been busy with buying a home.

From reading the news and this thread, I just wanted to recap and go over all the changes on the coupe with my initial feelings/opinions.

HP Gains with Torque Loss:
-I'd say this would be a positive change. I'm guessing with the higher HP at a higher RPM, the coupe will be a bit more docile and fuel efficient during normal driving conditions at lower RPMs. The torque loss is probably due to some of the internal engine changes to increase the rev limit and higher top HP which is a bit of a trade off, but should give the coupe better high end performance during races. On the contrary, Honda made changes to the S2000 by increasing displacement, lowering the rev limit, and increasing top end torque which most feel as a positive change. Then again, this car was redlining at almost 9k RPM before these changes.

Suspension and Brake Changes:
-I'm reading that Infiniti has made some suspension changes in the '05 coupe. I'm assuming that this is a positive change. I'm expecting better skidpad numbers? The other way is to probably go to my nearest dealership and do a test drive to feel the new suspension. The brake changes is IMO the sore point of the new changes in '05. Getting rid of the Brembo option in the 6MT is a step back. I love my Brembos and for Infiniti to have it as an OEM option saves us $$$ from getting aftermarket brake kits and gives us superior braking performance. I'd say this is one of the biggest if not the biggest downside to the '05.

Interior Changes:
-I just gotta say WOW. Infiniti really heard us and our rants on the G35 interior and it looks like they really did something about it. The downside is that they did it on the '05, two years after the car was launched! The radical changes though positive, really puts a slap on us '03 and '04 owners who yearns for the '05 interior changes and would probably fork up $$$ to get an interior upgrade kit if one was made available. The telescoping steering wheel, new 8 way power seats, brushed aluminum console and trim, new console buttons and dials, and the upgraded HU with mp3 support really stabs my heart, but then again, I can always wait for the '08 G35 after I pay off my '04.

Wheels:
-New 19" forged wheel adds value and reinforces commitment from Infiniti in delivering a true performance luxury coupe. Downside is that the wheels are relatively narrow from what I've read so far. 8.0 front and 8.5 rear. My logic would have expected 8.5 fronts with 9.5 rears, but I can understand why Infiniti may have stuck with the narrower wheels. This allows them to go with 40mm profile tires instead of going with 35 and 30mm tires which could make the ride harsher and pose problems with tire and wheel life in areas with less than perfect roads. Personally, I'd go with aftermarket wheels anyhow so I don't feel that this is any loss owning an '04, but the NO Brembo option in the '05 supersedes this positive change by a longshot.

Overall:
I've noticed that the curb weight on the 6MT has increased! Probably due to the interior changes and the larger wheels. I've read that the HP gains are mostly from intake and exhaust cam timing changes, but I didn't see anything about the intake plenum, intake tube, and or exhaust changes which is what most members here expected. I'm not much of a gearhead, but I'm guessing the mods mentioned above could still be applied to the '05 coupe to increase power to the coupe even more. I like the new coupe and I wish I may have waited, but the removal of the Brembos from the OEM options really soured any thoughts of trading in my '04 to get the '05. The new 35th anniversary Track Edition Z sounds awesome, but I need two more seats and an overhaul to that fugly interior!

My $2.02

Re: 2005 OFFICIAL THREAD

Yeap!!!!, my local northern California dealership already has the 2005 G35 Coupe AUTO. I went to see it just a couple of hours ago. Man, I gots to say, they look really nice. I was able to sit inside one. Messed around with all the buttons and stuff. They didn't have any with NAV though, which I really wanted to check out. Those new 19" are really nice, trust me. Compared to those 18", the 19" looks soooooo nice. I was only able to see the graphite interiors and wheat, that's it, no sign of the stone though. I took pics as well, will post them here or another thread. They had coupe in that new Athen Blue color, which looks really nice. But they didn't have BLACK, which is the color that I had ordered. I wanted to see how those new 19" looks like on a black coupe, but I guess I will have to wait.

i didn't see an answer to this question, so i'm asking it. are the new brakes for the 6mt the same ones for the sport tuned package with the 19" rims on the 5at? if yes, then can some of the 5at owners comment on them? how good are they?
