Pioneer AVH-4100 owners please chime in
I have a few questions on this unit as in what media it can read and handle in terms of storage. I bought this unit so I could use the usb feature for both my iphone and flash drives. I've realized that the USB flash drive seems to be slower than the ipod when you have a lot of music loaded onto it (16gigs). Are there certain USB flash drives that work better? Would an external harddrive work better? Also, has anyone tried burning dual layer dvds to play on the unit? Thanks for the help in advance. I just wanted to know if I should buy a bigger flash drive or just save up to get a 80gig ipod so I can play all my music.
Don't get the AVH-4100. They are making the new avh-4200. It is practically the same but might have better features since it is the newer model. I think it may already be out. Overall though, the pioneer unit is great. I love my dual screen navi/double din setup!
Its already out, im not digging the style at all. Seems more bulky. The 4100 is clean and very functional. Also, for some reason the 4200 is cheaper than the 4100..
As we all know, just because its newer doesn't mean its better.

i plan on getting a dd soon also and was looking at the 4200. but gotta go and check them all out first. what are some good models that ppl have that are out for a good price?? i think the 4200 is good for the price and you can add nav
I have the Pioneer 4100. It's really nice. I have a 16gb iPod Nano loaded with MP3s hidden in my center console underneath the cup holder. It's wired to the back of the HU. I also have the PAC steering wheel controls setup along with the Pioneer Bluetooth module. Everything works great, I only wish that the aftermarket PAC steering wheel controls were a bit more responsive without a noticeable delay whenever you change songs.
The HU will read regular CDs, DVDs, CDRWs, and DVD-RWs as well as MP3s and (I can't remember which) video files.
If you want a GPS unit, you will need to go with a different Pioneer HU.

You CAN add navi to the avh-4100, but I don't think its worth it at the end when you add up prices of the headunit plus the navi unit. Its better to go with an all in one unit. I already have navi so there was no use for me to get another navi unit.
The USB is fine when I have relatively low number of files on it but with a 16gb flash drive it takes much longer than my ipod. Plus the USB flash organizes files in the order they were put on and not alphabetical. I may be doing something wrong possibly, but thats what happens when I use the USB.
