Nissan to recall Infiniti G35 over air bag issues

WASHINGTON -- Nissan Motor Co. said Tuesday it will recall nearly 135,000 Infiniti G35 sedans and coupes to address a problem that could lead to the air bag not deploying in a crash.
Nissan said the recall involves G35 Coupes from the 2005 to 2007 model years and G35 Sedans from the 2005 to 2006 model year.
The automaker says the air bag unit's wire harness under the front passenger seat could wear down and interrupt the air bag's signal. In a crash, the air bag may not deploy and could increase the risk of an injury.
Nissan spokesman Colin Price said there have been no injuries reported.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Nissan had not yet provided the agency with a plan to fix the vehicles or a timeline of when owners will be notified.
Price said if a vehicle's red air bag warning light had turned on, the owner can bring their car into their dealer for repair. For more information, owners can call Infiniti at (800) 662-6200.

I called too. The rep stated that my vehicle does not need recall yet. Most likely, Infinity's system will update in a few weeks. Owner would get letter in the mail.
As for my 05 coupe, dealer fixed airbag once under warranty. 3 months later, the problem came back, and my vehicle was out of warranty. I've been putting of that fix.

It's unfortunate, yes, but it's no need to flame Nissan-Infiniti, particularly when the said manufacturer immediately assumed responsibility for said recall and there are no injuries or deaths linked to this recall.
EDIT: Here's some food for thought:
They indicate poor quality. Excessive recalls might, but virtually every manufacturer has to occasionally fix problems that slip through the manufacturing process. Automobiles are complicated machines with dozens of computers and thousands of moving parts, subject to bad roads, extreme temperatures, lousy drivers, and outright abuse. An automaker that never issued recalls, in fact, might be hiding problems instead of fixing them. Toyota's challenge now is to convince customers that it's committed to making them whole and permanently solving problems, not just dodging blame, evading lawsuits, or taking the cheap way out. Others have done it.
